JAMES McMURTRY & The Martial Law Review at Musikfest Cafe

James McMurtry & The Martial Law Review bring a full band show to Musikfest Cafe, with special guest BettySoo. McMurtry is known for richly drawn, character-driven songs that sketch out lives in sharp detail, from a quail-hunting lawman with a hidden home life to a grease-stained mechanic weighing love against the cost of getting by, as well as a troubled narrator shadowed by a black dog and a wandering boy. The sound leans into ragged, rootsy textures with a keen storyteller’s touch, finding humor and heart amid hard truths. These tales fuel his eleventh album, The Black Dog & the Wandering Boy, which gathers sparks from family memories and long-held notes, and sits alongside covers honoring Jon Dee Graham and Kris Kristofferson. The result continues a career marked by vivid narratives and a steady, unflinching gaze. Special guest BettySoo adds a compelling presence, celebrated for a clear, expressive voice and songwriting that pairs wit with emotional depth. Her performances highlight finely crafted lyrics and a command of harmony that has made her a sought-after collaborator. Please note, a $10 food and beverage minimum applies to all reserved seating.

Sensory Hour

Sensory Hour at Da Vinci Science Center at PPL Pavilion offers a calm, sensory-aware visit for anyone who benefits from a quieter, gentler environment. Lighting, audio, and exhibit effects are dialed back to support relaxed exploration and discovery, and the building is quieter at the beginning of regular hours. Sensory tools such as weighted blankets and noise-reducing headsets are available at the Visitor Services desk, and a dedicated Safe Haven room near the first floor restrooms provides a peaceful space if needed. Across the center, many experiences run with reduced or no sound. The traveling exhibit operates with lower audio, the Touch Lightning Tesla Coil is turned off, paddles are removed from the Victaulic Pipe Organ, the volume is lowered in Curiosity Hall, and immersive elements are muted. In the Lehigh River Watershed galleries, the Pocono Ravine plays without bird calls and water features, while the Limestone Cavern excludes bat sounds and disables a graphic. This hour is designed for individuals with sensory sensitivities, neurodivergent guests, and anyone who prefers a quieter museum experience. The NB Center Tour

This tour offers a behind-the-scenes look at The NB Center for American Automotive Heritage, highlighting both its collection and its working workshops. The private foundation is dedicated to preservation, restoration, and education, protecting the vehicles, craftsmanship, and stories that shaped the American automotive middle market, particularly from the early to mid 20th century. Rather than keeping cars stationary, the Center maintains them to run and be driven. Set in Allentown, Pennsylvania, the main campus is laid out like a small automotive village with 27 acres, 14 buildings, and a drive-in movie theater, all designed to keep the collection active and in motion. The Center is not generally open to the public, though it does host visits from car clubs. PCA Chesapeake has been invited to tour the facilities. The tour is free.
