    Cashewdude's Comics Lab

    Erie · 1701 State St

Cashewdude’s Comics Lab is a weekly, hands-on drawing and design session at Erie Labor Temple led by the Erie artist, illustrator, and character creator known as Cashewdude. It welcomes absolute beginners, returning hobbyists, developing artists, character makers, comic enthusiasts, and anyone who has been telling themselves they wish they could draw. No prior experience is needed. Over three concentrated hours, the group moves through guided exercises, live demonstrations, conversation, one-on-one support, and plenty of dedicated drawing time. Participants learn how to carry an idea from imagination to paper by making choices about shape, expression, character, composition, exaggeration, and visual storytelling, along with the many small steps that turn a blank page into a finished image. The aim is not to mimic one style. It is to open up the artist’s process and help you develop your own. Each workshop stands alone, so there are no prerequisites and no requirement to have attended before. Some people arrive eager to create characters, some are focused on comics or illustration, and others simply want practice, feedback, and a supportive room to work in. Hosted by Cashewdude and Erie Labor Temple.

    Clothing Distribution Party

Erie · St. James Place, 2622 Buffalo Rd

    Free

Hosted at St. James Place, the Clothing Distribution Party is organized by the Community Outreach Group, a 501c3 nonprofit dedicated to serving neighbors who could use a hand. Volunteers gather coats and clothing throughout the year and then bring it all together for a welcoming giveaway that also offers a hot lunch and plenty of friendly smiles. The effort is made possible by support from businesses, church groups, schools, and many individuals who share their time, talent, and resources. After the event, remaining clothing and food are shared with agencies that continue to help people in need. This tradition grew from the experiences of the group’s co-founder and friends following a Cursillo weekend through the Catholic Diocese of Erie, with Matthew 25:40 as a guiding verse. Through a new partnership with the Mazzini Charitable Foundation, which is developing the St. Paul Center as a hub for local nonprofits, renovations there prompted a move for this edition to St. James Place in collaboration with the St. James Catholic Church parish community.
