Building Better Sensual Bachata

Build confidence on the social floor with a four-week progressive sensual bachata series that emphasizes musicality and ease rather than forced styling. Each week explores a focused theme, moving from hip action to body rolls with isolations, then head and chest articulation, and finally cambres. Instruction blends solo practice with partnered drills so participants learn not only the mechanics, but also timing and application. The curriculum prioritizes fluid transitions, clear connection and communication, refined control and body awareness, and movement that feels natural. Classes highlight expressing the music instead of chasing patterns. Every session includes structured drills and a short combo to translate new skills directly into social dancing. The series builds from week to week, yet drop-in attendance is accepted. Teaching centers on honoring the music and its roots, using sensual elements as tools for connection and expression rather than tricks. Pricing options include $120 for a 12-class package, $75 for 6 classes, $60 for 4 classes, or $20 for a single drop-in. #UnicyclesAreAThing

On the South Side Riverfront Trail just below the Hoffbrauhaus, #UnicyclesAreAThing gathers in a wide, smooth, flat area with plenty of railings that make it an easy place to learn and practice. The group celebrates everything on one wheel, with riders bringing a wide range of unicycles, including tall giraffes, fat-tire models for off-road use, and wheel sizes from 12 to 36 inches. Other curiosities like circus bikes or ultimate wheels sometimes make an appearance. Anyone is welcome, with participants ranging from young children to adults over 50, and the organizers have met riders over 70 at other unicycling gatherings. There is no fee to participate, as Thick Bikes covers the cost. Attendance typically ranges from 5 to 25 people with all skill levels represented, and activities can include group riding skills or games like tag and follow the leader. Loaner unicycles in various sizes are available, and a limited number of helmets are on hand, though wearing a helmet is encouraged and a standard bicycle helmet works well. Flat soled shoes such as skate shoes provide the best grip on pedals, while high heels, leather soles, or shoes with gaps can make riding difficult. Comfortable clothing similar to what you would wear for bicycling is a good choice. New and experienced riders alike can try different setups, build skills at their own pace, and enjoy a supportive scene on the trail.

Ettore Buzzini + Sweaty Already String Band // Acoustic Music Works

Acoustic Music Works hosts a bluegrass showcase featuring Swiss-American songwriter and banjo prodigy Ettore Buzzini, with the Sweaty Already String Band opening. Highlights include winning the Kruger Brothers’ Young Songwriter's Contest at age 11 with an original piece inspired by Norse mythology, releasing a debut album with Patuxent Records at 14, collaborations with Pete Wernick, Danny Paisley, Mark Schatz, Patrick MacAvinue, and Christopher Henry, appearances at festivals such as Merlefest and FloydFest, a feature on PBS's Woodsongs, and a FreshGrass Competition win with The Birth of Eros, a hard-driving banjo instrumental rooted in a romantic classical theme. Locals Sweaty Already String Band kick things off with a mix of traditional and modern bluegrass. Seating is very limited. There are 65 pre-sale tickets, after which the event shifts to standing room only. A $20 ticket guarantees a seat, with selection on a first come, first pick basis. This show is BYOB. Smif-N-Wessun
