He performs around the city at places such as Antonio's Pizza, Velum Fermentation, Acoustic Tuesdays at Liberty Magic, Starlite Lounge, Ruckus Coffee, and Mellon Square's Lunchtime Concert Series, and he has appeared at the past two Millvale Music Festivals. This event raises funds for the Pittsburgh International Jazz Festival to help keep the festival free. Now in its 52nd anniversary season at Hop Farm Brewing Company, Hemingway’s Summer Poetry Series presents featured readings alongside an open mic. This installment brings together Chiwan Choi, Timons Esaias, Cate Peebles, Richard St. John, and Marcel Lamont Walker. Choi is the author of six poetry books, including The Flood, the three-part Daughter project Abductions, The Yellow House, and my name is wolf, as well as Sky Songs and birthdays, and he is a partner with the experimental literary collective Writ Large Projects, with work appearing in outlets such as New York Times Magazine, ONTHEBUS, and Zócalo Public Square. Esaias is a Pittsburgh-based satirist, writer, and poet whose work has appeared in 22 languages, with recognition that includes the Asimov’s Readers Award, finalist placements for the British Science Fiction and Seiun awards, a win in the Winter Anthology Contest, a shortlist mention for the Gregory O. Donoghue International Poetry Prize, a Pushcart nomination, and the Intrepid Award for the story To Do, and his story Norbert and the System is taught in college courses. Peebles is the author of Thicket and The Haunting, along with chapbooks such as Sun King, winner of the Tomaž Salamun Prize, and The Woodlands, winner of the Sixth Finch chapbook contest, with poems published in journals that include The American Poetry Review, Ploughshares, Boston Review, Tin House, and others; she also coedits the online magazine Fou and has received support from The Academy of American Poets and the Vermont Studio Center. St. John is a nationally published poet whose most recent collection is Book of Entangled Souls, following Each Perfected Name, The Pure Inconstancy of Grace, and the long poem Shrine, and he has read widely for dedicated poetry audiences and newcomers alike. Walker is an award-winning creator of graphic prose and a leader in using comic art for social impact, recognized by readers of Pittsburgh City Paper as Best Local Cartoonist and honored with a BMe Community Genius Fellowship, with clients that include the Holocaust Center of Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, and WYEP; he was later named a Pittsburgh Cultural Treasure and regularly collaborates with educators and students across the country.

Hosted by the Catholic Schools Office in O’Connor Hall, this symposium supports Pope Leo’s first encyclical on artificial intelligence, Magnifica Humanitas. Under the theme Artificial Intelligence, the Human Person, and the Love that Surpasses Knowledge, a renowned panel from science, technology, education, theology, and philosophy will examine AI through the lens of Catholic social teaching. Speakers are nationally and internationally recognized, widely published, and include individuals who advise the Vatican on AI. Participants can hear from these experts and engage in breakout conversations with others who share similar backgrounds and interests.

All are welcome, whether members or not. This installment in a Pittsburgh history series highlights Andy Warhol through the firsthand perspective of his nephew, Donald G. Warhola. A cocktail hour precedes the presentation. Warhola is Vice President of The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts and serves as liaison to The Andy Warhol Museum, where he works in the education department as a Warhola family historian. He is a member of the Foundation’s Board of Directors and chair of its Audit Committee. He now works with children who have special mental health needs and lives in Cranberry Township, Pennsylvania, with his wife Jarka and son Andrew.

At The Funhouse at Mr. Smalls, Star Viper teams with Black Hole Zion for an evening centered on cosmic spiritual conflict. Star Viper brings a black-and-roll and synthwave edge, while Black Hole Zion blends cyberpunk influences with heavy metal and a touch of new age mysticism. Special guest Red Coin adds a heavy, dark blues presence. This event is open to all ages.
The Funhouse at Mr. SmallsKitty Bingo
At Kitty Queen Cat Rescue, this charity bingo event raises funds for kitties and supports rescue efforts for homeless, abandoned, and unwanted cats. An entry ticket is $25 and includes one set of bingo cards, with additional sets available during online registration and at the event. Bingo daubers are available for $2 each. Snacks and self-serve beverages are offered in the Kitty Cafe, and attendees may BYOB for adult beverages. Seating is available before play begins, and arrivals before lounge closing may be subject to a $5.00 lounge entry fee. For ticket security, do not purchase from any source other than Eventbrite or directly from Kitty Queen.
Kitty Queen Cat RescueMonthly Heads Up 5 Strike Tournament
Take part in a five-strike, head-to-head knockout tournament with matches cycling through DMD, SS, and EM games each round. Entry involves a $15 Dojo fee that sets all games to free play, plus a $5 tournament fee that is paid out in full. This event is BYOB. If you arrive after play has started, you will take one strike for every round already completed.
Slumber Purr-ty
Settle in for a Kitty Queen–style Slumber Purr-ty, an overnight experience in the main cat room surrounded by friendly rescue cats. Participants can enjoy snacks and beverages, play interactive games, and make a craft to take home. The evening begins with arrival in pajamas, followed by pizza and salad for dinner and a round of activities. When it is time to rest, guests tuck in for a cozy night with purrs and cuddles. In the morning, a light breakfast is served and there is time to visit with the kitties before heading out. This event is recommended for children ages 6 to 12. The ticket includes registration for one child and their adult, and adults spend the night too. Please bring a sleeping bag and pillow, a sleeping pad, comfortable clothing, personal toiletries, and a love for cats.

Celebrate what Wilkins Parks offer at a community gathering at Lions Park, the third stop on the list. Attendees can enjoy hot dogs, popcorn, and drinks along with a variety of activities. Balloon creations by Weird Eric & the Party Animals add extra fun. All offerings are free for Wilkins residents.

Explore a Pittsburgh favorite in a hands-on cooking class focused on homemade pierogi. Learn to mix and roll the dough, prepare a variety of fillings, and practice shaping and sealing, with tips for cooking, serving, and storing so you can recreate this Eastern European classic at home. The menu features pierogi with different fillings. If you have dietary restrictions, please ask about possible accommodations before registering, since last-minute changes or separate portions may not be available. Be aware that foods prepared may contain or come into contact with milk, eggs, wheat, soybeans, gluten, sesame, fish, and shellfish. At West End Overlook in Pittsburgh, a charitable evening features Rena Sofer and Vanessa Marcil and a live auction of rare celebrity experiences alongside a curated selection of unique, high-end items. Pittsburgh’s AHYP Club celebrates hometown legend Gene Kelly with a themed evening inspired by Singin’ in the Rain. Expect live period music from Susan Leslie and the Jazz Trio and dancing as the club is decorated to help guests feel immersed in Singin’ in the Rain. The song that has lifted spirits for almost 75 years sets the tone, and photo opportunities will be available. Although his birthday falls the following day, a birthday cake will be served in his honor. Tickets include access to the normally private circa 1930 AHYP Club, plus snacks, a drink ticket, and live entertainment. The event is open to all.
Run Around the Square 5k and 1.5 Mile Run/Walk
Choose between a 5K and a 1.5 mile run or walk through the Regent Square neighborhood, finishing at Fern Hollow in Frick Park. The 1.5 mile option is open to all ages, and only participants 13 and younger are eligible for awards. Registration closes in advance and there are no race day sign ups.

Ruckus Cafe presents its 5th annual Touch-a-Truck, a family-friendly showcase where kids of all ages and adults can explore emergency and community vehicles up close. Fire companies, EMTs and police from Cherry City, Bauerstown, Shaler, Ross and Milvale will be on hand with their trucks and cars, including undercover police vehicles, so attendees can touch, climb and learn about the machines they usually only see from a distance. Children can enjoy free activities, and the cafe and coffee bar will be open.

Level Red Boxing presents a free outdoor, boxing-inspired circuit at Sally’s Path that packs high energy and intensity into a fun, accessible workout. No experience or equipment is required. If you have boxing gloves and wraps, bring them, and gear will be provided for anyone who needs it. Show up ready to move and everything else is covered. After the workout, participants can meet the coaches and connect with the Level Red community, then head to City Kitchen for a discounted brunch. Registration is complimentary through the Level Red Boxing app. Create an account, locate the class on the calendar, and reserve a spot.
Poetry Open Mic

Emerging from the same 1980s Austin scene that produced Butthole Surfers and Scratch Acid, Nice Strong Arm is known for a dark, atmospheric sound that blends UK post-punk gloom, evoking Joy Division and Bauhaus, with the jagged guitar energy associated with New York outfits like Sonic Youth and Swans. After 35 years, the band returns.
