Recognized as the country’s top John Denver interpreter, Vigil captures the singer’s look and voice with a realism that Denver’s former lead guitarist Steve Weisberg has praised. For more than a decade, this free open mic has been a fixture in Northeastern Pennsylvania, bringing diverse performers and lively crowds to The V-Spot in Scranton. Musicians, comedians, actors, performance artists, magicians, and others take the stage to share their work, connect with fellow artists, and reach new audiences, with added exposure from live streaming and event photography. Even touring bands sometimes drop in for a set between gigs. Sign-ups are collected first, with a small number accepted later, and arriving early is the best way to secure a spot. Each performer gets a set on a brightly lit stage equipped with a soundboard, two microphones, two standard instrument cables, and a Mapex house drum kit with five pieces. Full bands can take the stage. Performers using pre-recorded music or backing tracks may bring a phone or laptop to plug directly into the soundboard. Any other gear should be brought by the artist. Original work is encouraged. An eight week Scranton Pinball League season at Bartari features weekly group match play across four rounds. Players are grouped in fours when possible, and each person selects one machine for the evening. Points are awarded by finishing position on each game using 7, 5, 3, 1 scoring, or 7, 4, 1 if a group has three players. Totals add up across the season to determine standings, and after the seventh week the two lowest or missed weeks are dropped. Finals take place in week eight. The top eight compete in four player groups over three games with PAPA scoring of 4, 2, 1, 0. If a finalist cannot attend, all seeds below move up to keep the field full. For each game, the highest seed in a group chooses machine or position first, followed by the next highest seed, and the top two from each group advance to another round using the same format. Each finalist may select any given game only once during finals. Formats for players outside the main division will be determined by turnout. League dues are $20 plus coin drop on the machines played. All dues are paid out in full through cash, trophies, prizes, and IFPA fees.
