Magic City Hippies w/ The Free Label @ Radio Room, Aug 9 2026

28 Liberty Ln, Greenville · verified Aug 2
    See details

Magic City Hippies take the stage with Miami-rooted flair, weaving funk, psychedelic pop, and dance-ready rhythms into a sound that feels both relaxed and electric. Evolving from the Robby Hunter Band, the trio cemented its identity with a 2015 self-titled release and has since built a reputation for genre-blurring songwriting and an energetic live presence, with appearances at Bonnaroo, Austin City Limits, and Lollapalooza. Their catalog moves from the breezy hooks of the Hippie Castle EP to the deeper coastal moods of Modern Animal and the kaleidoscopic, post-pandemic uplift of Water Your Garden. A burst of singles in 2024, including the disco-funk spark of Givin’ Up On Lovin’ with NoMBe and the acid house–tinged I Can’t Let You Go, leads into Enemies in 2025, a groove-forward breakup album that fuses indie rock bite with nostalgic, synth-led textures. On stage, their shows are sweaty, jubilant, and inviting, powered by tight chemistry and years of touring that turn dance-floor momentum into a room-wide celebration. Casual listeners often leave as fans, carried by emotionally charged songs and rhythms built for movement.

    Gvljazz Underground

Coffee Underground, 100 N Main St, Greenville · verified Aug 2
    See details

Vocalist, composer, and arranger Leah Rutherford leads a newly assembled quartet that reimagines the jazz songbook with fresh perspectives. The program blends new arrangements of both well known and lesser heard standards with originals shaped by the language of the classic composers, and several of the arrangements will be premiered. This is the quartet’s first performance together, and they share roots in the Greenville Fine Arts Center jazz studio program. Rutherford pairs a deep connection to lyrics with an ear for instrumental lines honed by transcribing masters such as Sonny Stitt and J. J. Johnson. She currently studies at the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. The band features William Armstrong on piano, Ethan Ropp on bass, and Patrick Lane on drums. The performance takes place in the Coffee Underground Theater, a cozy listening room that serves housemade desserts, coffee roasted on site, teas, wine, and cocktails.
