Pottery Wheel Class 6/23

Beginner-friendly wheel sessions are offered only by appointment and are taught for one or two participants at a time. An instructor will first demonstrate how to throw a bowl on the pottery wheel, then you will create a piece of your own. No previous experience is required. The class is for ages 12 and older, and the price is $55, which includes one piece per participant. After your work is made, it will be fired once, and you will be contacted to return and paint it. It will then be fired a second time, with pickup available one week later. Advance online registration is required, the instructor is scheduled only when there are sign-ups, and walk-ins are not accepted.

Animal-loving kids can dive into a creative camp designed for ages 4 to 8. Participants start by stuffing a plush cat or dog to make a new companion, then enjoy pet-themed projects throughout the week. They will design a custom shirt for their pet, craft a collar and accessories like a blanket and treats, build and decorate a cozy dog or cat house, and illustrate a storybook about their adventures to take home. Each day includes guided art activities, imaginative play, and a snack. All supplies are included.

Summer Play with Clay Day

Enjoy a hands-on, walk-in clay handbuilding day where participants use provided tools to shape their own creations at $35 per pound of clay. Pieces dry for about three to four weeks before a first firing. After you receive a call that it is ready, return to paint the piece and it will be fired a second time. Pickup is available one week after the second firing. A new option allows you to paint the clay the same day for $30 per pound, with firing to take place after three to four weeks of drying.

Night of the Art-zombies

Night of the Art-zombie brings a playful dose of spooky creativity to an art camp session where kids craft imaginative projects across three days. Campers work with clay, canvas, pottery paints, glass fusion and more, completing five to six pieces by the end. Expect macabre makeables like grave-inspired hands, brain-themed banks, and zombie sculptures shaped in clay. Each participant receives a camp T-shirt from Hearts of Clay. Outdoor, donation-based yoga unfolds on the lawn at Fretwell in Spartanburg. Sessions welcome all ages and experience levels and offer a refreshing way to begin the week. Bring your own mat for a class that balances challenge and enjoyment. Lisa leads with a friendly, inclusive style that encourages community connection. Participation is free, and donations for the instructor are appreciated. The green space offers a calm backdrop to deepen your practice and find balance.

Crafty Girls Summer Camp

A hands-on summer camp for creative girls ages 9 and up, packed with projects that inspire making and design. Campers craft their own soap and body scrub, blend colorful bath bombs, pour candles and hand-paint the jars, shape polymer clay into custom jewelry, and stitch a hand-embroidered t-shirt to take home. Each day combines step-by-step guidance with room to explore personal style, and there is plenty of time to customize every piece. All supplies are included, and a snack is provided during the session. Participants leave with a collection of handmade creations, new skills, and growing confidence. Payment can be made in full at registration or reserved with a nonrefundable $50 deposit, with the remaining balance due two weeks before camp begins and invoiced by email. Attendance requires full payment before the start of camp.

Aquatic Art Adventures

This ocean-inspired camp session at Hearts Of Clay invites young artists to explore resin, clay, and glass while creating a series of sea-themed pieces. Projects include a fused glass dolphin plaque, a box with a shark fin design, and a glow in the dark octopus, along with additional creations. Throughout the week, campers complete five to six projects using materials such as clay, canvas, pottery painting, and fused glass. A Hearts Of Clay camp T-shirt is included, and snacks and drinks are provided each day. The weekly fee is $165 per camper, with a $25 nonrefundable deposit and a $140 balance due on the first day. Open to ages 6 through 16, with a minimum of 3 campers and a maximum of 10 per session.

Summer Strings Camp

Fernwood Baptist Church and Mountain School of Strings have teamed up to offer a hands-on music camp for ages 8 to 17. Instruments will be available to borrow through Mountain School of Strings, and participants are welcome to bring their own. Across three days, campers make music together, build friendships, and explore Appalachian traditions. Tuition is $30.

Paint Your Own Ice Cream Bowl

Celebrate National Ice Cream Month by decorating a ceramic ice cream bowl at Hearts Of Clay. Participants select a bowl to personalize with paint, enjoy an ice cream bar, and learn about ice cream. Finished pieces are kiln fired and will be ready for pickup in one week. To reserve a spot, pay $25 in advance, which covers a $10 non-refundable event fee per person and a $15 deposit applied to your bowl on the day. The remaining balance is due at the event, with a minimum bowl purchase of $15.

Pottery Wheel Class 7/21

Explore the fundamentals of wheel throwing at Hearts Of Clay in a small, beginner-friendly session by appointment. Each booking includes personalized instruction for up to two participants. The instructor will first demonstrate how to throw a bowl on the wheel, then you will apply those steps to craft your own piece. No prior experience is needed, and the class is open to ages 12 and up. The cost is $55 and covers one finished piece per participant. After your work is created, it undergoes an initial firing. Participants are then contacted to return and add glaze, after which it is fired again and ready for pickup in about a week. Advance online registration is required, and the instructor is scheduled only when sign ups are received. Walk-ins are not accommodated.

Spartanburg’s original comic, toy, and pop culture convention returns with vendors from across the Southeast. Children 12 and under get in free, and admission is $5 for ages 13 and up. There is ample free parking, concessions are available, and the entire event takes place indoors.

A beginner friendly pottery wheel lesson is available by appointment for up to two people with an instructor. It starts with a demonstration on using the wheel to make a bowl, then you will create your own piece. No prior experience is necessary, and participants must be 12 or older. The fee is $55 per person for one piece. After the first firing, you will be contacted to return and paint your work, then it will be fired a second time and ready for pickup one week later. Paint Pour Riser Workshop

Explore paint pouring at Reinvintage Warehouse and craft a useful work of art with flowing color and a glass-like sheen. In this interactive session ideal for beginners, you will customize an approximately 8 by 12 inch wooden riser using Fusion Mineral Paint’s Pouring Resin, a medium formulated for fluid, marbled effects on wood and canvas that is different from epoxy resin. Select two colors plus a metallic accent to create a unique riser that blends creativity with function. The finished piece can serve as home décor, a candle base, a coffee bar detail, a plant perch, a serving platform, or a standalone statement for your space. No experience is required and all supplies are provided. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming... great for a night out with friends, a creative reset, or anyone curious about fluid art techniques. Because pour painting requires extended drying and sealing, projects stay at the studio after class and will be ready for pickup in about a week. Cost: $46.
