The music draws on traditions that reach from the Sahara and the Mongolian steppe to the Balkans, the Caucasus, and the shores of the Pacific and the Mediterranean, weaving diverse sounds into a unified journey. Using a loop pedal and other electronics, he layers parts in real time so one cello blossoms into a richly textured ensemble. The performance features original instrumental pieces alongside selections from a catalog of more than 250 songs in many languages, including French, Italian, Farsi, Bosnian, Turkish, Kurmanji, Arabic, Ukrainian, Yiddish, Ladino, Spanish, Catalan, Greek, Georgian, Armenian, Hindi, and Nepali.
