Nashville debuts on the American Backgammon Tour with the inaugural Music City Backgammon Open at Holiday Inn Nashville Airport. The schedule centers on a Triple Elimination (MoreSwiss) ABT main event across three divisions, complemented by side events and jackpots that keep boards busy throughout the tournament. The competition is organized by Kristin Bruce Westerman and directed by Rory Pascar, who has ties to tournaments in Chicago and Boston.

Palestinian-American stand-up comic and award-winning writer Mohammed "Mo" Amer takes the stage for an evening of incisive stories and sharp humor. As part of the Blair Symphonic Series, the Vanderbilt Wind Symphony kicks off the 2026–27 season under guest conductor Robin Fountain, emeritus professor of conducting who led the ensemble for over twenty years. The program highlights the richness of twentieth century American and British wind music, moving from energetic brilliance to moments of deep expression and featuring both full-ensemble color and featured soloists. Leonard Bernstein’s Divertimento appears in Clare Grundman’s wind band arrangement, interweaving graceful waltzes, jazz-tinged rhythms, and bright fanfares. Percy Grainger’s Shepherd’s Hey channels the lively spirit of an English Morris dance, while Ralph Vaughan Williams’s Toccata Marziale showcases ceremonial power through bold brass writing and vibrant counterpoint. The concert also features Vaughan Williams’s Concerto for Bass Tuba in Merlin Patterson’s band arrangement, balancing a spirited opening with a lyrical Romanza and a sparkling final Rondo. Led by nationally recognized, award-winning artist Patrick Saunders, it centers on fundamental skills for painting from life and from photographs. Participants explore a single, streamlined method for approaching any subject by simplifying forms and moving efficiently to a finished piece to retain energy in the work. Instruction addresses composition, value, texture, color temperature, and accurate paint handling. Patrick demonstrates in oils, while artists working in acrylic or pastel can apply the same principles. Each day starts with a brief talk and a full demonstration, continues with personalized guidance, and wraps up with a group review and goal setting. The 3rd Annual Giving Hope Golf Tournament brings golfers to Hermitage Golf Course for 18 holes on the President's Reserve to raise funds for children in Haiti. For this month only, Music Book Club meets at Richland Park Library instead of its regular location. TJ, also known as Tanael Joachim, is a stand-up comic born in Haiti and based in New York City. With an easygoing, conversational style, he finds humor in race, cultural quirks, and the contrasts between life in Haiti and the United States. His on-screen credits include Gotham Comedy Live on AXS TV and Good Day New York on FOX. He performs regularly at the Comedy Cellar and Gotham Comedy Club, has taken his act around the world, and recently completed a European run in both English and French. He has opened for Colin Quinn, Janelle James, Maria Bamford, and Sean Patton, and has been featured at festivals such as Netflix Is A Joke, SF Sketchfest, and the Eugene Mirman Comedy Festival. Beyond the stage, he contributes op-ed pieces to The New York Times. His special January 3rd is available on Amazon, his album Son of Haiti can be heard on major audio platforms, and his Don’t Tell Comedy set is on YouTube. After filming a pilot for FX, he returns to the road with new material about love, death, grief, and immigration, presented with sharp, incisive wit that uncovers laughter in even the darkest topics. The Alien Everywhere tour is his third, following successful runs across North America and Europe, with plans to reach additional countries and even new continents while sharing his distinct Haitian perspective on the human condition.

Audrey Spillman marks the release of Nightingale with a performance alongside friends. A singer songwriter whose music has been recorded by artists such as Amy Grant and heard in film and television, she has shared the stage with Rodney Crowell and worked in the studio with Kris Kristofferson. Years spent on St. Simon Island in Georgia, followed by a move to Nashville, shaped the new album with the spirit of the southern coast. Produced by Grammy nominated Neilson Hubbard, Nightingale centers on faith, family, and home with a southern gothic sound. The album features contributions from John Moreland, Mindy Smith, Garrison Starr, and Grammy winning songwriter Natalie Hemby.

Artville returns as a flagship public art festival in Nashville, reshaping the urban landscape with murals, installations, special events, and immersive experiences. Downtown’s Walk of Fame Park will host the American Artisan Festival, a Nashville tradition spanning more than five decades, back in the city center for the second year in a row with backing from the Nashville Downtown Partnership. The American Artisan Festival is free to attend and takes place across three full days.

Returning to the Nashville Fairgrounds, Nashville Poké Fest takes over Expo Building 3 for a weekend focused on trading card games. Presented in Ingram Hall as part of the Blair Symphonic Series, the concert spotlights the Blair School of Music’s student musicians in a dynamic pairing of a contemporary score and a groundbreaking classic. Jacob Bancks’s The Healing Machine traces a path toward restoration, moving between kinetic rhythms, richly colored sonorities, and moments of quiet reflection to affirm resilience and growth. Igor Stravinsky’s The Rite of Spring, first heard in Paris in 1913, redefined modern music with its depiction of ancient spring rituals that culminate in a sacrificial dance. Its surging rhythmic drive, audacious harmonies, and visceral intensity continue to make it a pillar of the orchestral repertoire. Reserved seating is in effect, with tickets priced at $13.50.

Poet's Playground is a poetry open mic and showcase at Island Vibes Restaurant and Lounge in Nashville, Tennessee. Remo Drive and sports. share the stage at Cannery Hall Nashville for an event open to ages 18 and over. Remo Drive, the Minnesota duo of brothers Erik and Stephen Paulson, built momentum with their distinctive indie rock and the albums Greatest Hits and Natural, Everyday Degradation, then returned to their parents' basement with a secondhand Tascam recorder to self-produce A Portrait of an Ugly Man. That album embraces agile, guitar-forward arrangements and a looser vibe, nodding to classic and desert rock and the cinematic feel of old Westerns, with songs like If I've Ever Looked Too Deep In Thought, Ode to Joy, and Star Worship blending self-awareness, humor, and weightier themes. Joining them, sports. is a three-piece rooted in the Midwest emo tradition, formed in Boston and now based across Green Bay, New Haven, and New York. Their debut full-length, Demon Daze, grew into a cult favorite after a hiatus and is often cited as a gateway into the style. The band has reunited to mark the record's tenth anniversary with its first full-band tour in more than six years and a remastered edition featuring ten bonus tracks of demos, remixes, and acoustic versions. This 5K, presented by SeatGeek, welcomes friends, families, and teams to run a course that loops around Nissan Stadium and downtown Nashville. Participants finish on the 50 yard line inside Nissan Stadium, home to the Tennessee Titans, with appearances from Titans Entertainment enhancing the day. Each runner receives a commemorative shirt, a race medal, and a ticket to the Titans game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Breaking The Sickle Cell Cycle Foundation, Inc. presents the 6th Annual Sickle Cell Warrior Walk & Run 5K, a community event focused on raising awareness of sickle cell disease, honoring warriors, supporting families, and advancing efforts to break the cycle. This family-friendly gathering welcomes runners, walkers, supporters, and community members of all ages. Participants can take on the 5K or choose a 1-mile fun walk, while others cheer from the sidelines to amplify the message. The day includes registration, an opening ceremony with a warm-up, the start of the 5K followed by the fun walk, a post-race celebration, and an awards ceremony with refreshments. For one day each year, Nashville Shores Water Park welcomes four-legged swimmers after the regular season has ended. Bring your dog for a splash-filled outing as pups enjoy the water. Admission requires a ticket and proof of a current rabies vaccination. Each ticket covers one dog and its human, and every dog must be accompanied by a human. Tickets are available online for a limited window, and if advance sales have closed, they can be purchased at the park on the day.
