    Appalachian Christmas

Bristol · Paramount Bristol, 518 State St

Students and staff from Grace Studio of Motion and Dance present An Appalachian Christmas, A Nutcracker Story, an annual holiday production that reimagines the classic ballet with a regional twist. The story begins in a family cabin where Clara greets party guests. A magical aunt arrives with gifts, including dancing rag dolls and a nutcracker. After the celebration, the nutcracker comes to life and leads Clara on an enchanted journey through the Appalachian Mountains. She encounters Mother Nature and small woodland animals in place of Mother Ginger and the Polichinelles, then travels along the Crooked Road through coal country, Whitetop, the Land of Sweets, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and wildflower fields. Woodland fairies lull her to sleep, and she awakens back in the cabin with her nutcracker, wondering if it was all a dream. Conceived by owner and director April Grace, the production blends tradition with a fresh perspective and showcases the studio’s full range of dance styles, including ballet, jazz, tap, hip hop, lyrical, and musical theater, highlighting the beauty and customs of the region and sharing the spirit of the season.

An Evening with Dailey. & Vincent

Bristol · Paramount Bristol, 518 State St

Bluegrass mainstays Jamie Dailey and Darrin Vincent return to Bristol by popular demand. As newly inducted members of the Grand Ole Opry, they have been performing together for nearly two decades, and their shows on The Paramount stage are known for resonant harmonies and lasting impact. Jamie Dailey previously served as lead vocalist and guitarist for Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver from 1999 to 2008. Darrin Vincent performed with Ricky Skaggs’ Kentucky Thunder and with his family group The Sally Mountain Show alongside his sister Rhonda Vincent of Rhonda Vincent & The Rage. In 2003 the pair was invited to appear on the Koch Records release Christmas Grass Vol. 2, 2004, recording the classic Beautiful Star of Bethlehem with only a guitar, a mandolin, and their two voices. The track reached No. 1 on Prime Cuts of Bluegrass, sparking a decision to collaborate more often and ultimately launch Dailey & Vincent.
