After the celebration, the nutcracker comes to life and leads Clara on an enchanted journey through the Appalachian Mountains. She encounters Mother Nature and small woodland animals in place of Mother Ginger and the Polichinelles, then travels along the Crooked Road through coal country, Whitetop, the Land of Sweets, the Blue Ridge Mountains, and wildflower fields. Woodland fairies lull her to sleep, and she awakens back in the cabin with her nutcracker, wondering if it was all a dream.
