Morgan Freeman's Symphonic Blues Experience brings a cinematic exploration of the Mississippi Delta, the place he calls home and the cradle of the blues, to Wortham Theater Center. Freeman narrates on screen while a live orchestra performs with musicians who carry the legacy of artists such as Muddy Waters, creating a blend of film, history, and the sound of the Delta. The ensemble features Anthony 'Big A' Sherrod on guitar and vocals, Lee Williams on percussion, Adrienne 'Lady Adrena' Ervin on vocals, Adrian 'Rev Slim' Forrest on bass, Mark Yacovone on keyboard, Keith Johnson on guitar, vocals, and harmonica, Vasti Jackson on guitar and vocals, and George Mumford Jr. on vocals, with Martin Gellner as composer, conductor, and music director, and Boo Mitchell as vibe curator and music consultant. Rooted in Freeman’s commitment to preserving the blues through his Ground Zero Blues Club, the program is crafted to present his complete vision. An in person appearance by Morgan Freeman is anticipated and will be confirmed in the summer, and the production is designed to deliver his vision in full even if he is not present.
