Participants work toward certification in adult and child CPR as well as choking response, including abdominal thrusts. The session is open to families, caregivers, educators, neighbors, and community members. The fee is $10 per person receiving certification, which includes drinks, and a pickleball court will be available for family members who are not taking part in the training during the session. Capacity is limited to 40 participants. At the first Ready to Respond session, 60 community members earned their certification.

Profiles of available dogs are shared in advance, and submitting an application ahead of time will reserve a selected dog for the first 30 minutes of the event. Those interested in fostering so dogs do not return to the shelter can stop by during the event or text 409-797-6033. Volunteers are needed to help the event succeed, and one week foster placements between events are especially helpful. The number of dogs that can attend depends on volunteer support, so greater participation means more dogs and more lives saved. 2026 Summer Premier Championship

The 6th Bi-Annual Premier Championship returns to Al Garza’s Premier Martial Arts in Dickinson, offering a full slate of competition for first-time participants and seasoned competitors alike. Athletes can test their abilities, represent their schools, and make lasting memories on the mats. The tournament includes a wide range of divisions such as kata, weapons kata, point fighting, continuous kickboxing, open weight and open rank point fighting, stick fighting, tricking, team point fighting, and team stick fighting. A school-versus-school contest runs throughout, with every performance adding points toward a grand total. Dickinson, League City, and Pearland are all in contention, and the program with the highest score will claim the Team Championship Belt and bragging rights until the next championship. Competitors seeking the toughest challenge can enter the Open Weight and Open Rank Point Fighting divisions, which combine all belt levels and weight classes into larger brackets. These brackets use a double-elimination format to create more matches and more mat time, and each one awards a $100 cash prize to the winner. No other division includes prize money or double elimination. Registration is available in two tiers, with discounted pricing during pre-registration. The first division is $40 during pre-registration and $50 during regular registration, and each additional division is $25. Spectator admission is $5 for ages 5 and up. Registration closes at the posted deadline, late entries are not accepted, there is no at-the-door registration, and all competitors must complete registration before the cutoff.

August 2026 CLGMS Monthly Meeting - SPEAKER TO BE ANNOUNCED SOON

CLGMS hosts its monthly meeting at Helen Hall Library. The featured speaker will be announced soon, and details will be updated when available. This gathering includes a friendly show and tell, so participants are welcome to bring specimens, jewelry, or other items to share, ask questions about, and take home afterward. Attendance does not require membership. Membership is available for $15 for adults, $20 for a family at the same address, and is free for honorary members age 70 and above. Dues include a monthly newsletter and help fund scholarships and school grants.
