Every Brilliant Thing

At the Doug Smith Performance Center, this intimate solo play traces a man’s memories and the sparks of joy that helped him through dark moments. The story begins when he is six, with a mother in the hospital and a father who says she has done something foolish. He responds by creating a growing catalog of life’s bright spots, from ice cream and kung fu movies to laughing so hard milk comes out your nose, even the sight of towering construction cranes. Left on a pillow and added to over time, the list gains momentum and becomes a lifeline, told with humor, tenderness, and honesty. The result is a candid portrait of depression, resilience, and the lengths people go for those they love. Celebrated in more than 80 countries on stages large and small, the piece has also enjoyed a Broadway run starring Daniel Radcliffe. Directed by Morgan Urbanovsky.

Sunday Easy Riders

Easy Riders offers a relaxed group ride focused on light exercise and good company while pedaling around Georgetown. The group meets across the street from the Georgetown Library and heads out shortly after gathering. Routes are typically unplanned and shaped by who shows up, with distances decided together. Rides usually span 5 to 10 miles, though they have been as short as 3 and as long as 23, and adjustments are made to fit the group. Another group, the Rough Riders, starts earlier, so there may be a chance to connect with them after finishing. Jeff generally leads and often guides riders through parts of Georgetown that are new to many, and he is glad to let someone else take the lead. Mel and Jeff ride with a 6 and a 7 year old daughter and granddaughter in tow, and the girls are learning to ride but are not yet riding independently on these outings. Updates may be posted in case of rain, including possible cancellations.
