🧪 Science Week Summer Camp at Nova Gymnastics

Science Week Summer Camp at Nova Gymnastics blends interactive science experiments with gymnastics, games, challenges, and time on the trampolines, creating a lively mix of learning and movement. Campers can meet peers and make new friends along the way. Designed for ages 5 to 13. Pricing is $250 for the full week, $60 for a single day, or $30 for a half day.

Kids Summer Pickleball Camp

Young players can beat the heat on air-conditioned courts during a two day pickleball camp designed for all experience levels. Certified teaching pros tailor each day to each participant, introducing the basics or building on existing skills through focused drills and friendly games. The camp includes lunch, a T-shirt with child sizing, and use of a rental paddle, with plenty of on-court fun throughout. A waiver is required for each player and can be completed onsite.

Tuesday Night Stitch Night

This in-person stitch night welcomes makers of all kinds, not just cross-stitchers, as long as your project fits comfortably in your personal space. Kids Summer Classes - Operation: Plants for Birds

Professor Salvia leads a kid friendly adventure into how native plants support birds, combining Audubon’s Plants for Birds with the Junior Master Gardener plant curriculum. This session focuses on soils and water, with hands on activities that include planting seeds and exploring how these basics affect plant growth. Along the way, participants learn to spot invasive species like the notorious Commander Privet and discover which native plants create welcoming habitat for birds in yards and nearby parks. Each topic in the series is presented twice during the week with the same content, so families can choose the day that fits their schedule or attend multiple weeks. Best for ages 7 to 12. Sessions are one hour long, and a parent or guardian must remain on the preserve grounds during class.

This beginner friendly class from Shoot Smart and the National Shooting Sports Foundation introduces safe handgun handling and fundamental shooting skills for those new to firearms. No prior experience is required. Instructors guide participants through essential safety practices and basic techniques so first timers leave with a clear understanding of how to handle and be around handguns safely. The price is $65 per person. All gear is provided, including the use of a .22 LR handgun from Shoot Smart. The NSSF First Shots program supplies eye and ear protection and ammunition while supplies last. Students ages 8 to 20 may attend with an accompanying adult who is 21 or older. Set on the fairways of Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie, the Southern Star Scramble Golf Tournament presented by Elmwood Homes blends a full round of golf with community connection. A highly anticipated Midlothian Chamber event, it features networking with local professionals and community leaders, friendly competition across the course, interactive sponsor holes, giveaways, and on-course contests. The round begins with a shotgun start and includes team and skills challenges, with recognition for best team, worst team, most mediocre team, longest drive, and closest to the pin. Moon Lit metaphors a celestial celebration anthology, and open reading

Poets are invited to share up to three pieces inspired by the moon, stars, night, or sky for Moon Lit Metaphors, a celestial-themed anthology paired with an open reading. Selected work will be gathered in a chapbook of the same title, contributors will receive a complimentary copy, and all authors retain full rights to their poems. The chapbook reveal and reading will take place at the regular outdoor open mic at Mudook Coffee & Bar. An in-person poetry contest connected to this project will recognize the top three contributors on the theme with cash awards of $75, $50, and $25 for first, second, and third place. Contest participation is limited to those who submit to the anthology. Tri-Now DFW Open Water Swim Workouts

Train in open water with a coached, kayak supported group session at Cedar Hill State Park’s South Boat Ramp. A buoyed loop of about 750 meters is set to mirror race conditions, and the course remains available for the duration of the workout so you can complete as many laps as you prefer. This session is part of the 2026 DFW Open Water Swim Series, with on water safety provided by Kayak Power. In the warmer months, water temperatures are typically high enough that a wetsuit is not needed. Participation does not require membership, though registration is required. Workouts are included for members, and non members pay $20 per swim. A separate state park entry fee applies. A transition bike ride may follow the swim, so set up cycling gear in advance if you plan to take part.

The intermediate hike route will be chosen during the week of the event because of the area’s unusually rainy season. For those seeking accessible options, Shoreline Trail provides a paved, one mile path along the water near parking and picnic areas, with views of the lake and dam. A self-guided experience at Penn Farm will be available throughout, and the Penn Farm Trail features an easy 0.6 mile gravel loop that can be walked in either direction with plenty of shade. Enjoy a relaxed lake day that mixes riding and time in the water. There is a $7 fee to enter the park. The swimming area is open, confirmed by a call with park staff. The day begins with a casual meet and greet, followed by a DORBA trail ride of up to 12 miles at each rider’s preference. After that, take on a lake lap or road ride at a social pace for roughly 10 to 15 miles, with the route still to be determined. Once the rides wrap up, plan to cool off and hang out in the water. Bring food and drinks, and consider packing enough to share. Please avoid glass containers. Park rules prohibit the public display or consumption of alcohol.

June Covington, last summer’s Artist in Residence, leads mindful Sunday afternoons with guest artists and poets. The outing is hosted by Mrs. Mimi with Israelite Kids Academy, a DFW private K–8 hybrid homeschool and summertime learning program. Participants who are not currently enrolled may attend by meeting the group at the venue and covering their own admission and any related costs.
