Professor Salvia leads a kid friendly adventure into how native plants support birds, combining Audubon’s Plants for Birds with the Junior Master Gardener plant curriculum. Along the way, participants learn to spot invasive species like the notorious Commander Privet and discover which native plants create welcoming habitat for birds in yards and nearby parks. Moon Lit metaphors a celestial celebration anthology, and open reading

Poets are invited to share up to three pieces inspired by the moon, stars, night, or sky for Moon Lit Metaphors, a celestial-themed anthology paired with an open reading. Selected work will be gathered in a chapbook of the same title, contributors will receive a complimentary copy, and all authors retain full rights to their poems. The chapbook reveal and reading will take place at the regular outdoor open mic at Mudook Coffee & Bar. An in-person poetry contest connected to this project will recognize the top three contributors on the theme with cash awards of $75, $50, and $25 for first, second, and third place. Contest participation is limited to those who submit to the anthology. Tri-Now DFW Open Water Swim Workouts

Train in open water with a coached, kayak supported group session at Cedar Hill State Park’s South Boat Ramp. A buoyed loop of about 750 meters is set to mirror race conditions, and the course remains available for the duration of the workout so you can complete as many laps as you prefer. This session is part of the 2026 DFW Open Water Swim Series, with on water safety provided by Kayak Power. In the warmer months, water temperatures are typically high enough that a wetsuit is not needed. Participation does not require membership, though registration is required. Workouts are included for members, and non members pay $20 per swim. A separate state park entry fee applies. A transition bike ride may follow the swim, so set up cycling gear in advance if you plan to take part.

June Covington, last summer’s Artist in Residence, leads mindful Sunday afternoons with guest artists and poets. Participants start by creating a simple journal, then head into the preserve to slow down, look, and listen. Nature journals are completed with all natural watercolors and drawing pigments. This experience is open to adults and teens who enjoy exploring beyond the lines. The fee is 50 dollars per session, all materials are provided, and class size is limited to eight.

Tweens and teens ages 11 to 16 can spend an afternoon at Main Event in Grand Prairie enjoying arcade games and laser tag, followed by dinner at Cici’s Pizza. The outing is hosted by Mrs. Mimi with Israelite Kids Academy, a DFW private K–8 hybrid homeschool and summertime learning program. Participants who are not currently enrolled may attend by meeting the group at the venue and covering their own admission and any related costs. Families are asked to share the names and ages of attending children on the event page and complete an emergency information form. Detailed meetup instructions and the itinerary will be provided after sign-up, and plans may adjust based on weather. If plans change, please update the RSVP so the group is not kept waiting.
