    A ranger leads an exploration of the park to spot butterflies and dragonflies, welcoming participants of all ages and experience levels, whether local or visiting from far away. The Valley hosts more than 300 species of butterflies and about 100 species of dragonflies, including some seen in the United States only in South Texas. Bring a camera or binoculars if you wish, or borrow binoculars on site. If the weather is too hot, a tram helps the group move around. The group meets on the deck outside the Park Store. This program has been offered here for nineteen years. Included with park entry, which is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

Features include time on the birding deck overlooking the wetlands, which has logged a single-day record of 115 species from one vantage point, and a visit to the Tropical Area, home to Green Jays, Great Kiskadees, and Clay-colored Thrushes, and known for drawing rarities such as Elegant Trogon, Rose-throated Becard, White-throated Thrush, and Crimson-collared Grosbeak. If conditions are very warm and humid, and if participant numbers and weather allow, the tour may take place from a quiet electric tram that travels throughout the park. The program is included with park admission, which is $5 for adults and free for children. It is family-friendly and open to all skill levels, and pets are not permitted. Meet on the deck just outside the Visitor Center Park Store. Complimentary loaner binoculars are available.
