Bring creativity to a hands-on, family friendly wood workshop. Learn techniques like distressing, sanding, staining, building, and painting while completing a wood project you select from the online gallery. This setting is ideal for families, parent and child pairs, and siblings, as well as anyone who wants to make something unique. Online registration is required at least 12 hours in advance, and each person must work on their own project since sharing is not allowed.

Weekly Pokémon league play at Mad Hatters welcomes participants of every age, including newcomers. The focus is on building a friendly community for both kids and adults.

The 17th annual “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” event is a free family-focused day at Buddy Holly Lake, presented by Los Hermanos Familia and organized with Latino Lubbock Magazine. With support from title sponsor Glasheen, Valles, Inderman, LLP Injury Lawyers, the lake will be stocked with catfish, and no fishing license is required during the event. All children up to 17 must be accompanied by an adult to support the goal of bringing families together. Attendees are encouraged to prepare for heat and changing weather by bringing water, shade, sunscreen, snacks, and beverages, along with a favorite fishing rod and bait for a comfortable day. Lunch will be provided for registered participants who present the ticket received at check-in, and event T-shirts will be available on-site for a $5 donation. Expect plenty of outdoor, fishing-related activities designed for family fun. The tradition began with a final request for a family fishing trip fulfilled by founders Christy Martinez-Garcia and Frank Garcia, honoring Frank’s father and inspiring an ongoing celebration of time together. All participants must preregister, and onsite registration will be available.

The 806 Hub City Hoops Classic brings competitive 3-on-3 basketball to Lubbock, Texas, with teams from the 806 and beyond chasing citywide bragging rights. Eight divisions are featured, including men’s, women’s, and youth brackets, and one team in each will be crowned champion. Entry is $100 per team. Experience living history in the Foy Proctor Historical Park at the National Ranching Heritage Center, where the past is brought to life. Ranch Host volunteers wear period clothing, answer questions, present demonstrations, and lead tours of selected structures. Activities change from one week to the next based on volunteer availability and interests. Admission is free.

An annual Back 2 School Bash at Faith2Faith Church offers free haircuts with limited spots, a backpack giveaway, school supplies in limited quantities, and free food for the family. Everything is first come, first served while supplies last. It is a welcoming chance to share a meal, connect with the community, and get ready for a successful school year, with opportunities to get involved in future outreaches.

Children can receive complimentary haircuts to get ready for the school year. Please arrive with hair clean and completely dry, as shampoo services will not be available. Lice checks will be conducted.

Enjoy $3.50 Chiltons and $3.50 Shiner pints, plus a free $5 game card with each kid's meal. Every game is available on the TVs so you can catch all the action.

Students explore drawing, painting, and mixed media through guided projects that build core skills in a supportive classroom setting. Each session begins with instructor demonstrations, then moves into step-by-step projects that reinforce color mixing, texture, line, shape, composition, and introductory painting techniques. Lessons draw on the work of Vincent van Gogh, Claude Monet, Alma Thomas, and Faith Ringgold to show how artists use color, movement, pattern, and storytelling. Over the course of the week, participants complete a range of structured artworks, from short studies to larger pieces developed over multiple sessions. All materials are provided.

RealDealCares is paying it forward with complimentary small shaved ice for children ages 16 and under, celebrating the end of summer and the return to school. To qualify, accompanying adults are asked to like one of the Real Deal affiliated social media pages, tag the organization in a post, and share the event with friends and family; affiliated pages include @RealDealDesigns, @RealDealPhotos, @RealDealMarqueeRentals, and @RealDealCares. Availability is limited and served in order of arrival. Extra flavors or toppings may be purchased separately. Voluntary donations will be welcomed to benefit the RealDealCares Foundation and support ongoing community opportunities and events.

A creative story time returns to Board & Brush, blending a read-aloud with hands-on art for little makers. This workshop runs for one hour. It is tailored for children ages 1 to 5 and welcomes creators of every age. Each session begins with a favorite book, then every child paints a pre-stained board inspired by the story. Finished pieces make thoughtful keepsakes or gifts for the important adults in a child's life. Favorites for the read-aloud include How to Catch a Monster, It’s Not Easy Being a Bunny, Pout Pout Fish and Worry Whale, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, The Smart Cookie, and Ten Apples Up On Top. A limited number of extra boards are available for walk-ins, but advance online registration is strongly recommended to secure the design you want. Each child must complete their own project, with no sharing. Adults may assist their child, or they can create a board of their own.

Little ones can discover the world of Hank the Cowdog at the M-Cross Ranch inside the Cash Family Ranch Life Learning Center. Each week offers hands-on fun, including story time and simple crafts guided by NRHC staff and volunteers. Children can also spend time in Sally Mae’s Ranch House, where ranch-themed toys from the Happy Toymaker encourage imaginative play. Attendance is free.
