This weekend in Lubbock, TX

The 17th annual “Vamos a Pescar, Let’s Go Fishing” event is a free family-focused day at Buddy Holly Lake, presented by Los Hermanos Familia and organized with Latino Lubbock Magazine. With support from title sponsor Glasheen, Valles, Inderman, LLP Injury Lawyers, the lake will be stocked with catfish, and no fishing license is required during the event. All children up to 17 must be accompanied by an adult to support the goal of bringing families together. Attendees are encouraged to prepare for heat and changing weather by bringing water, shade, sunscreen, snacks, and beverages, along with a favorite fishing rod and bait for a comfortable day. Lunch will be provided for registered participants who present the ticket received at check-in, and event T-shirts will be available on-site for a $5 donation. Expect plenty of outdoor, fishing-related activities designed for family fun. The tradition began with a final request for a family fishing trip fulfilled by founders Christy Martinez-Garcia and Frank Garcia, honoring Frank’s father and inspiring an ongoing celebration of time together. All participants must preregister, and onsite registration will be available.

Saturday Service days feature free, pick-your-own harvesting in a community garden. Participants may select and gather produce themselves at no cost.

Join the weekly Wolfforth Farmers Market for a family- and pet-friendly day with lots of local vendors. The market covers 3 acres, with plenty of shopping and food options, and runs every Saturday year-round from 10 AM to 2 PM.

The 806 Hub City Hoops Classic brings competitive 3-on-3 basketball to Lubbock, Texas, with teams from the 806 and beyond chasing citywide bragging rights. Eight divisions are featured, including men’s, women’s, and youth brackets, and one team in each will be crowned champion. Entry is $100 per team. Experience living history in the Foy Proctor Historical Park at the National Ranching Heritage Center, where the past is brought to life. Ranch Host volunteers wear period clothing, answer questions, present demonstrations, and lead tours of selected structures. Activities change from one week to the next based on volunteer availability and interests. Admission is free.

An annual Back 2 School Bash at Faith2Faith Church offers free haircuts with limited spots, a backpack giveaway, school supplies in limited quantities, and free food for the family. Everything is first come, first served while supplies last. Robinson Strings offers a live demonstration on the craft of historic fiddle making, showcasing traditional techniques used to build these culturally rooted instruments by hand at the Cash Family Ranch Life Learning Center as part of the Ranch Life Summer Series. The program explores the instrument’s historical impact, noting how immigrants carried fiddle-centered traditions across the ocean and how, in the eighteenth century, the fiddle was heard in homes and at public gatherings. It continues to hold a prominent place in Western music. There is no charge to attend Ranch Life Summer Series programs.

At Wild West Harley-Davidson, the fifth annual hog roast features fresh roasted pork sliders with all the trimmings. Live music by local legends The Ducks and ice cold drinks are complimentary. Nirvana Burger and Frios gourmet popsicles will be available for purchase.

Volunteer at Lubbock Animal Shelter with a pack that gives back. Participants should wear long pants and closed-toed shoes, check in at the front desk, and then split into small groups. A Pack Leader will share a list of ways to help so each person can choose a task, including spending time with dogs in the yards, washing bowls, cleaning kennels, and refilling water. First-time participants will complete a simple waiver at check-in. An RSVP is required in advance so organizers can coordinate the team effort.

Summerfest 2026 brings the Lubbock community together for an evening of celebration and impact. Enjoy live musical entertainment, dinner and time to connect, fun with a West Texas spirit, and both silent and traditional auctions, along with uplifting stories from Amtryke recipients and scholarship honorees. Funds raised support Lubbock Monterey AMBUCS in delivering Amtrykes to children and adults with mobility challenges and in providing scholarships for therapy students at Texas Tech who are preparing to advance mobility and independence.

This community pack walk offers Lubbock dog owners a relaxed stroll with their pups, beginning at He-Brews Coffee in the Buddy Holly Rec Area, with participants meeting in the parking lot. All breeds and ages are welcome as long as dogs are friendly with both people and other dogs. For everyone’s safety, only bring dogs that have completed their full Parvo vaccination series. RSVP is required.
