Summer Bug Safari
Explore the prairie with a ranger on a guided bug hunt at Penn Farm. The program explains how insects support life on land by pollinating flowers, feeding other animals, and enriching soil, then shows how scientists study arthropods in the field by catching and observing them. Meet at the Penn Farm parking lot. Wear sturdy walking shoes and dress for the weather. Bring water and a snack if needed. Participation is free, with a $7 per person park entry fee or entry covered by a Texas State Parks Pass. Children 12 and under enter the park at no charge. Plans may change with weather, including possible location shifts, postponement, or cancellation, so check their Facebook story for the latest updates.
Cedar Hill State ParkMahjong Open Play
Adult Mahjong players who are already proficient or expert can take part in high level, competitive play at the library. This is not a lesson and there will be no beginner support. Each participant needs a 2025 Mahjong Playing Card. The library can provide a small number of tile sets, though bringing a personal set is recommended. Expect focused games that let you test strategies against other seasoned players and keep your skills sharp. Photos may be taken during library events for use on social media, the website, and in publications. Attendance indicates understanding of this practice. If you or your child would prefer not to be photographed, please speak with library staff.

Cedar Hill Kids and Family Tri
Enjoy a full day of multisport activities designed for young athletes, plus a dedicated family and friends option. Kids ages 6 to 15 can choose between a triathlon and a splash and dash, with Junior and Senior distances available to match different experience levels. The recreational family and friends wave features a 200 meter pool swim, a 5 mile bike ride, and a 2 kilometer run. It welcomes pairs of any age or gender who want to take part together, whether that is an adult with a child, two children, or two adults, such as a mother and son, father and daughter, an aunt with a niece, or two parents. Each participant registers in the Family Wave and includes a shared group name on the form. Pairs are numbered together, begin the swim together in a time trial format, and can stay side by side throughout. Participants receive the same perks, including a shirt, a medal, and official timing. This wave does not offer age group awards and is all about fun.
