Each First Saturday features a unique theme, and October focuses on This Owl House. Activities include building your own owl house with additional registration costs, a decoration station, face painting, photo opportunities, education stations, a prairie walk, enrichment building, creating seed packets or seed bombs, Agents of Discovery, and more. In partnership with Sensory Days Dallas, a Quiet Area with sensory-friendly activities will be available at all family events. All ticket sales support the Blackland Prairie Raptor Center, a small self-sustaining nonprofit that cares for raptors, protects the Blackland Prairie, and provides educational programs for families. Heritage Ranch Golf & Country Club in Fairview, Texas hosts a community-focused Golf Classic played in a four person scramble format. The day moves from check in and lunch to a putting contest, followed by a shotgun start. Individual entry is $200, or register a four person team for $750. Entry covers green fees, a cart, lunch and dinner, plus a gift bag, raffle tickets, and participation in the putting contest. After the round, participants can enjoy buffet snacks, an awards presentation, and a gift drawing. Owl-O-Ween returns with a family friendly Halloween evening on the prairie, blending a little spooky with lots of fun as costumed visitors explore trails and discover surprises around each bend. Children can trick or treat across the property, play seasonal games, and stop for face painting before heading off to the next adventure. Along the way, there may be a magician mid-performance, bubbles swirling for an impromptu dance, and even a towering 6 foot dinosaur appearance, all set to music and the feel of fall weather outdoors. Raptors take center stage with up close encounters and a chance to learn why owls are often called the ghosts of the prairie. A peaceful nature walk, special animal guests, and time to soak in the evening round out the experience. Fire trucks are available to explore, a Story Paws therapy dog will be on site, and a food truck offers a convenient snack break. Photography is welcome for capturing magical moments with the birds. In partnership with Sensory Days Dallas, a quiet area with sensory friendly activities will be available. Each ticket includes an entry for a chance to win a private, behind the scenes tour of Blackland Prairie Raptor Center.

Intro To Backpacking
This full-day classroom course welcomes those new to backpacking, day hikers ready to transition to overnight trips, and anyone looking to build on existing skills. The focus is on thoughtful preparation, from researching destinations and planning routes to understanding permit requirements and practicing Leave No Trace ethics. Participants learn how to select and compare essential gear, pack a bag effectively with load shares, and create clear communication plans. The class also introduces the fundamentals of map and compass use, along with conditioning and stretching techniques, foot care and hygiene, weather awareness, and safety steps for a lost hiker scenario. The class fee is $75, and roster slots are limited.
