Experience Puerto Rican bomba as a living pathway to songwriting, singing, and heartfelt expression in a multi-session workshop series at the Sorenson Multi-Cultural Center & Unity Fitness Center. Through guided rhythm and lyric activities that emphasize call and response and storytelling, participants explore how emotion can lead the creative process. No prior musical training is required, only a readiness to feel the beat and follow your heart. The series includes a songwriting session, a bomba dance class, a focused singing workshop, and a concluding gathering with live bomba music and dance. Bomba Marilé leads alongside visiting artist and music teacher Karla Rivera from California, creating a supportive space to connect with tradition, community, and personal voice. Registration is not required, and admission is free thanks to support from the Sorenson Unity Center, Salt Lake County Zoo Arts and Parks, Utah Division of Arts and Museums, National Endowment for the Arts, Salt Lake City Arts Council, and Creative West. The venue offers wheelchair-accessible entrances with automatic doors, accessible restrooms, designated wheelchair seating with companion spaces nearby, and accessible parking close to the main entrance. Photo and video may be taken during this public gathering. Lady Day at Emerson’s Bar and Grill, by Lanie Robertson, is a PG-13 musical that brings audiences into a worn Philadelphia nightclub for an intimate evening with Billie Holiday near the end of her life. The performance weaves more than a dozen songs with candid, often witty reflections, shaping a close-up portrait of her artistry, struggles, and enduring legacy. The piece earned acclaim on Broadway under director Lonny Price, with Audra McDonald as Billie Holiday and Shelton Becton as pianist Jimmy Powers.
