Best in Show
Mount Baker Theatre celebrates National Adopt a Shelter Pet Day a little early with a screening of the comedy mockumentary Best in Show. Before the film, the MBT Lobby and the Harold & Irene Walton Theatre host an open house featuring local pet-focused vendors and organizations. Attendees can meet adoptable animals from Whatcom Humane Society and learn about Brigadoon Service Dogs. Petstop will be on site with supplies, Tails-A-Wagging will share daycare and training options, and Tiffany Brooks Photography will be booking pet portrait sessions. While exploring, step into the theatre to see a slideshow of beloved pets from MBT patrons, staff, and community members. On screen, pampered poodles, soulful bloodhounds, and neurotic Weimaraners vie for top honors at the Mayflower Kennel Club. This mostly improvised canine-centered mockumentary follows a yuppie couple, a fly fisherman, and a pair of hairdressers as they primp and prepare their dogs for the big day.

Participants may attend a single workshop or the full series, and each session stands alone as a complete experience. Sessions take place in the Fairhaven Library Auditorium. For ages 7 and older. Advance registration is required. Cost is $36 per session or $108 for the full series.
Fairhaven LibraryKitchen Dwellers
Kitchen Dwellers bring a vivid blend of rootsy bluegrass, psychedelic textures, and rock energy, centered around the conceptual arc of their fourth album, Seven Devils. Inspired by Dante’s Inferno, the music traces a path of self-discovery, acceptance, and accountability. The Montana quartet features Shawn Swain on mandolin, Torrin Daniels on banjo, Joe Funk on upright bass, and Max Davies on acoustic guitar. Their writing links songs to the seven sins, with lyrical threads that reward close listening while exploring mental health, life on the road, addiction and its impact on relationships, the reality of shootings in America, and moments of release and renewal. The band crafted the record with producer Glenn Brown in a compact Michigan studio filled with storied gear, working closely together as ideas evolved. Notable tracks include Seven Devils (Limbo), which opens the narrative and later returns in an extended form, The Crow and the Raven (III), a spare reflection born from heartbreak, Pendulum, a look at trading one dependency for another, Here We Go (VI), a forceful response to gun violence featuring Lindsay Lou, and Unwind (Paradiso), which rises to a cathartic peak. Previous releases include Ghost In The Bottle, Muir Maid, Live from the Wilma, and Wise River, with appearances at stages like Red Rocks Amphitheatre and festivals such as Telluride Bluegrass, Northwest String Summit, and WinterWonderGrass.
