This is not a typical art class, but a pathway to deeper awareness where many forms of expression are welcome, including writing and movement. Some materials are provided, such as paper, watercolors, and drawing tools, and adaptations are available so people of all abilities, body types, and comfort levels feel supported. This beginner-friendly session at Games Workshop: Tacoma Place provides space to learn new skills for the Warhammer hobby. Bring paints, tools, dice, and questions to get extra help, or, if you are a veteran, share what you know with others. The structure is open ended, so you can work on anything you want, get or give assistance, and help grow the community. Participation can also earn Battle Honour Achievements.

The return of Palo Santo is being celebrated with a casual sip and shop open house at Browne Family Vineyards’ Tacoma tasting room. Explore the fragrance at a dedicated scent bar, meet Rachael, the founder and maker, and enjoy a relaxed, all-ages setting. Uncle Vanya Staged Reading

Screaming Butterflies launches its season with a staged reading of Chekov's Uncle Vanya. The play traces the ache of youth’s unrealized hopes, the pain of love that is not returned, and the resolve to keep moving forward even as society seems to be coming apart. It balances poignancy with dry humor, teasing out the quirks of a family spending the summer together in the country while inviting a compassionate look at each character. The reading showcases local actors Luke Amundson, Marilyn Bennet, Joe Grant, Helen Marion-Rowe, Jacob Tice, Amanda Stevens, Sophie Bustetter, and Tim Takechi, directed by Kathryn Philbrook. Admission is free, with donations welcome.

Cydeways + The Irie + Native Leaves at Spanish Ballroom

At Spanish Ballroom, McMenamins presents a multiband bill with Cydeways, The Irie, and Native Leaves. This is an all ages event. Cydeways brings an alternative sound rooted in Santa Barbara and led by Dustin Parks. The project took shape in Boston before moving west, and it features Casey Kernohan and Kevin Harvey, with producer and engineer Trevor Buckingham and co-producer Dana Shoults adding their touch. The band’s path to Law Records began when a recommendation from friends in Iration led to Dustin sharing a track that featured Grieves, which helped put the group on the label’s radar.

Earth day underwater clean up

An annual Earth Day focused underwater cleanup takes place at Point Defiance Marina, with the usual support of Parks Tacoma Volunteers. Divers can take part in the in-water effort, and those who prefer to stay topside are welcome to help with surface tasks.

Prepare for Pride

FCC Tacoma is gathering more than 1,000 handmade pieces to give away at Tacoma Pride Fest 2026. The Art Room at First Christian Church of Tacoma will be open each Tuesday with all the supplies needed to create clay hearts, also called pocket hugs, beaded bracelets, buttons and pins, and painted rocks. Materials are provided to support this creative effort.

High School (9th-12th) Art and Laser Workshop! Last Tuesday of the Month

This monthly workshop invites high school students in grades 9 through 12 to dive into a different art style or method each session, creating a project to take home. Throughout the year, participants experiment with lasers, painting, inking, printmaking, and jewelry making while building creativity and learning new techniques. Snacks are provided, and attendance is free. If planning to come to every session, registration is needed only once so contact information is on file. Open Shop Hours

Open shop sessions offer space to work on personal woodworking projects with safety training and guidance from industry professionals. Every participant completes a safety orientation before using tools, and the pace of trainings depends on attendance. Those who want to move through tool trainings more quickly can arrange a private lesson. Participants bring their own wood and hardware, while the shop supplies small consumables such as sandpaper and glue. Storage between sessions is not provided unless arranged in advance, so plan to take projects home after each visit. Registration is required in advance and is handled online. If no one registers, staff may close early, so advance registration helps ensure the shop is open. The environment is designed for intermediate to advanced woodworkers, though beginners are welcome and should be prepared for additional tool trainings, power tool supervision, and independent work rather than a formal class. Ages 16 and up are welcome, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Funky Jazz Wednesday

The Sand Presents Joshua Red Uttech

Joshua Red Uttech showcases a sound that fuses the grit of Chris Cornell with the melody of The Beatles, colored by pop, blues, R&B, and country. Raised in Eastgate near Bellevue, Washington, he found his voice in choirs and by singing along with the music that filled a busy home. Growing up in a family of 12 exposed him to everything from classic rock and country to synth pop, reggae, soulful harmonies, and metal, which fuels the breadth of his style. He is currently in the studio working on his first full-length LP, slated for release in 2026.

HIJINX & SUE-An Off the Shelf Staged Reading

Tacoma Little Theatre’s Off the Shelf series presents a staged reading of Hijinx & Sue, a new musical with book and lyrics by Jessi Pitts and music and lyrics by Daniel J. F. Wolfert, directed by both creators. Hijinx, a spirited, anxious, and glitch-prone karaoke robot left behind by a former pilot, forges a new bond with Sue, a jaded spaceship mechanic who dreams of captaining a Federation ship. When a surprise inspection of their vessel turns into the offer Sue has been working toward, she faces a difficult choice that could leave Hijinx behind. Their adventure spans a star-hopping road trip, a collapsing robot city, and a seemingly idyllic virtual reality, prompting both to examine their place in each other’s lives and what they owe a broken world. The cast features Nick Bourgalt as Hijinx, Heather Matthews as Sue, Russell Campbell as Facility, Elise Campello as Bobbi, Naomi Blue Driver as Shenanigan, Hannah Votel as Hooligan, and Sophie Sen as Tomfoolery. Shim Sham Workshop

Set in a motel room after his “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop” speech, the story introduces Camae, a hotel maid whose quick wit and piercing perspective spark a conversation that presses King to grapple with his legacy, his doubts, and the work still unfinished. 2026 Tacoma Spring Thaw Co-Ed Intermediate Tournament

At Tacoma Twin Rinks, this co-ed intermediate ice hockey tournament is played at the Bronze skill level under USA Hockey rules. Teams complete a four game round robin, then the top two advance to a championship game. Every player must have a valid USA Hockey number. Checking is not permitted, and facility policies apply, including no glass bottles in locker rooms and no alcohol on the bench. Each game features a warmup followed by three periods with a running clock, and the clock will stop late in the third if the score is within two goals. Teams are allowed one timeout per game. In qualifying play, a win earns two points and a loss earns none, with tiebreakers decided by head to head results, the total number of goals scored by female players, goals against, fewest penalty minutes, the earliest goal in the first game of tournament play, and if still tied, a coin toss. Ties in qualifying are resolved by a 3 on 3 shootout that must include at least one female among the first three shooters, then single rounds continue until a winner is determined, with no player shooting twice until everyone on the shorter bench and all eligible female players have taken a turn. In the championship round, play moves to 3 on 3 overtime before a five shooter shootout, then single rounds using the same rotation rules. Any player in the penalty box at the end of regulation or overtime may not participate in the shootout. One female skater must be on the ice at all times other than the goalie, unless a female player is serving a penalty. Female players cannot serve a teammate’s penalty or a bench minor, and a minor penalty will be assessed for noncompliance. Rosters reflect the Bronze bracket, primarily novice to intermediate adult players, possibly including a few with past high school experience, comparable to higher D or C level recreational teams. Players with any junior experience or above are not eligible for Bronze or lower divisions. All players must be registered through USA Hockey, and initial rosters with names and USA Hockey numbers must be submitted to the RHL upon registration. Eligibility will be confirmed through sources such as Elite Prospects and HockeyDB, and the RHL Spring Thaw committee may review eligibility at any time. Final rosters are capped at 18 skaters and 3 goalies, and any changes after the roster deadline require committee approval. A player who receives four penalties in a game is removed for the remainder of that game without a misconduct. Slapshots are permitted at this level. The Gretzky rule is in effect, limiting any player to three goals per game, with an intentional fourth disallowed and called as icing and an intentional fifth disallowed with a minor penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct. Any team that forfeits is not eligible for the championship. Player substitutions are generally not allowed, except for good cause with approval from the tournament committee ahead of the game and agreement from the opposing team. To qualify for the championship, each player must appear in two qualifying round games for their team. Players currently suspended by USA Hockey are not eligible, and suspensions received during the 2019 Sprint Thaw carry over under USA Hockey rules.

Horse Racing and Dysfunctional Karaoke

This event combines horse race excitement with a karaoke finale. Bets are $2 each, and participants can cheer on their chosen horse for a chance at a portion of the pot. An optional $1 donation allows naming a horse for that race, with six naming slots available. Proceeds support Food Connection. After the races wrap up, Famous Dave takes the mic for Fireball Friday's Dysfunctional Karaoke and carries the energy through the end of the night.

Tacoma Wayzgoose is a free community festival celebrating letterpress, printmaking, and book arts, presented by Write253 and the Tacoma Library at the Main Branch of the Tacoma Public Library. Local artists, printers, and creatives gather for a hands-on experience centered on making, learning, and sharing. More than 50 booths feature artists, printmakers, and book artists, and each one offers an activity so visitors can participate and create take-home pieces at no cost. Attendees can print keepsakes, experiment with paper-making, and learn the basics of bookbinding. Screen printing will be available for T-shirts, so bringing a shirt to print on is encouraged. A standout feature is the steamroller printing demonstration, where large 2-by-3 foot linoleum blocks are carved, inked, and pressed under a steamroller to produce oversized prints, and there is a raffle for a chance to win one. Food trucks will be on site, and the event provides many ways to explore, create, and connect with Tacoma’s creative community. Admission is free and open to everyone.

Norwegian pianist Oda Voltersvik returns with a concert that places Edvard Grieg alongside his contemporaries, tracing points of connection with Agathe Backer-Grøndahl, Wilhelm Peterson-Berger, Claude Debussy, and Bela Bartok to offer a wider view of Grieg’s music and its sphere of influence. The program includes works by Grieg such as Springar, To Spring, March of the Dwarves, Evening in the Mountains, Tempest Clouds, Bell Ringing, Nils Rekve’s Halling, Lullaby and Cattle Call, and Halling from a Fairy Hill. Music by Wilhelm Peterson-Berger features To the Roses, Far Away in the Forest, and At Twilight. The Historic Homes Tour spans two days and opens the doors to eight historic structures in north Tacoma. For 26 years, the event has welcomed thousands of residents and visitors into some of the city’s most notable houses and buildings, highlighting architectural craftsmanship, distinctive design features, and insights into daily life in earlier eras. This close-up experience with otherwise private residences offers a fresh perspective on the city, pairing the history of each home’s architecture with the personal stories connected to it. At Tacoma Mountaineers, the Voices for a Thriving Future series continues with a talk focused on microplastics in the Salish Sea. The speaker is Julie Masura, a Teaching Professor and Research Scientist at the University of Washington Tacoma who teaches geoscience in Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences. Her work examines microplastic concentrations in local waters, includes student participation, and involves partnerships with environmental education groups throughout the region. She will present findings from research across the Pacific Northwest and share practical ways to reduce the release of plastics into waterways. This series brings the community together to explore the species, science, and issues that influence the health of Commencement Bay and the South Sound, highlights local expertise, expands public understanding, and connects people with ongoing efforts to protect water and wildlife.

Create a custom dried floral wreath for Mother’s Day at a hands-on workshop in Wyatt Hall at the University of Puget Sound. A variety of materials will be available to design your piece, including several types of dried eucalyptus, roses in many colors, white rhodanthe also known as paper daisies, blue and light pink delphinium, preserved fern leaves in multiple shades, purple gomphrena, agonis, and pink and champagne lisianthus, with additional options on hand. Guidance is provided on how to hand wrap your chosen stems onto a metal wreath form using paddle wire.
