Sunday Open Skate
Enjoy a welcoming open skate session for all ages and skill levels. Come with friends and family or roll solo while lively music fills one of the Pacific Northwest’s largest flat floors. It is a friendly space to build confidence, practice techniques, or simply spend time together on wheels. Skate rentals for youth and adults are $5. Admission is $10 plus fees. A TAL Skate Membership is available and grants access to every skating session for the year.

Parrot enthusiasts gather in Tacoma every third Sunday for an in-person playdate and community time. People without a bird are welcome to attend for free. Before bringing a bird, attendees are asked to come on their own first so everyone can meet and help ensure a comfortable environment. Members bringing birds must send Debbie a veterinary record for each bird attending. Required documentation includes an annual CBC and blood chemistry within a year of joining, plus negative tests for PBFD, Psittacosis, and Polyoma, also called 3P testing. Member perks include a payment plan for vet services at pine tree, a free annual calendar, and a 10 percent discount at the FCF store. Professional members may bring items to sell at playdates and receive a free business card ad in the World Parrot Expo program. Open Shop Hours
Work on your own woodworking project in the Boat Shop at Foss Waterway Seaport. Guidance from industry professionals is available, and all participants complete a safety orientation before being cleared to use tools. Advance registration is required. Orientation and tool checkoffs can take time depending on attendance, and those who want to progress through tool trainings more quickly may arrange a private lesson. Bring your own wood and hardware, while the shop provides small consumables like sandpaper and glue. Storage between sessions is not available unless arranged in advance, so plan to take your project home each time. These open shop sessions are geared toward intermediate and advanced woodworkers, though all skill levels are welcome. Beginners should expect additional tool trainings and closer supervision with power tools, and should be prepared to work independently rather than in a formal class setting. Participants must be 16 or older, and minors under 18 must have an accompanying adult. At Ebony and Ivory Coffee (Boardroom), this hands-on masterclass focuses on how lyrics carry stories and how to make those stories stay with listeners. Songwriter Jade Monroe of the indie-rock band Sweet Marilyn guides participants through a mix of intuitive exploration and practical techniques to tap creative flow, refine voice, and sharpen emotional focus. Participants leave with new ways to approach songwriting, a clearer sense of their own process, and lyrics that have been refined or newly started. Please bring lyrics from a piece you have written, or words from a song you admire, to use during the session. Jade Monroe is a Tacoma-based songwriter, performer, and creative facilitator whose work connects music, land, and community. As the voice behind Sweet Marilyn, she crafts songs that feel intimate yet expansive, grounded in close observation, relationship, and the quieter systems that shape how people care for one another. She has studied songwriting with Adrianne Lenker and El Kempner, drawing on folk, indie, jazz, and traditional forms. Known for emotional clarity and precise language, she also mentors emerging artists through courses, workshops, and community music spaces across Tacoma, emphasizing curiosity, access, and creative resilience. Her teaching is informed by a background in environmental systems and community organizing, including advanced study in Natural Resource Management, which brings a systems perspective to creativity, ecology, and collective care. Beyond music, she is a beekeeper and small business owner who integrates pollinator stewardship into her artistic practice through Sweet Marilyn, reflecting a belief that creativity is part of everyday life and a tool for building connected, resilient communities.
Ebony and Ivory Coffee (Boardroom)The Bruce Maier Band + Backlash at Spanish Ballroom
Presented by McMenamins, this all ages show at the Spanish Ballroom features performances by The Bruce Maier Band and Backlash. The Bruce Maier Band highlights original material, with at least six self-written songs included in each set. Bruce Maier’s path spans early stage work from childhood through decades as a working musician, along with experience in recording engineering and television production, and time running a small studio where he has written around 200 songs. He is a member of the South Sound Blues Association and the Washington Blues Society, and plays guitar, bass, piano, and mandolin. Backlash is a five piece cover band offering rock, country, and blues favorites that tap into familiar memories. The lineup includes drums, bass, keyboard, two guitars, and harmonica, supported by four vocalists, and the group has performed throughout the South Sound since 2011 from its base in Olympia, Washington.

This is an all ages event. One Way Out PDX delivers energetic sets that shift from show to show, drawing from the band’s extensive catalog and long history. Rafael Tranquilino spans funk, rock, blues, jazz and neo soul, and was recognized in 2023 for electric blues guitar. He began performing in Mexico City at age 10 as part of a musical family, learned guitar, drums, bass, harmonica and keyboards, gained U.S. visibility with the Randy Oxford Band from 2007 to 2011, founded the Rafael Tranquilino Band in 2011, and continues to create and produce through TRAFF Music Productions.

Items are accepted on a first come, first served basis, and collection will close once trucks are full. Participants are responsible for safe disposal of any declined items. This Flames of War tournament is part of the Enfilade convention and takes place at La Quinta Inn & Suites Tacoma Seattle. Participation requires an Enfilade convention registration followed by reserving a tournament ticket, and there is no separate tournament fee. Space is limited to 14 players. Army lists use the Mid War period at 100 points with 40 points held in Reserve when required. Lessons from the Front from August 2025 and the Missions Pack from March 2023 apply. Forces may be drawn from North Africa, Eastern Front, or The Pacific, with wild card units allowed. All formation support and command cards must come from those sources. Lists are created using Battlefront’s Forces of War and submitted to the Tournament Organizer, Chris Little, by email. The event uses Battle Plans missions. Competitors bring their own miniatures and gaming aids. The day includes setup, check-in and a briefing, three rounds of play with a lunch break, and an awards presentation. Awards include Champion, Second Place, Third Place, a Sportsman award voted on by the players, recognition for the lowest total score after three rounds, and Best Painted Objective as voted by the players. Approved lists will be confirmed on the Puget Sound Wargamers Facebook page and Discord and also by email to registered players. Volunteer support is provided by the Puget Sound War Gamers Club.

FabLab EducationOpen Shop Hours
Work on a personal woodworking project in a supportive shop environment with safety training and guidance from industry professionals. These open sessions take place in the Boat Shop at Foss Waterway Seaport and begin with a required safety orientation for every participant, regardless of experience. Tool checkoffs and trainings may take longer when attendance is high, and those who want to move through them more quickly can arrange a private lesson. Participants should bring their own lumber and hardware. The shop provides small consumables such as sandpaper and glue. Storage between sessions is not available unless arranged in advance, so plan to take projects home after each visit. Advance registration through the organization’s website is required. If no one is registered, the shop may close early, so reserving a spot ahead of time is important. These sessions are geared toward intermediate to advanced woodworkers, though beginners are welcome. Newer woodworkers should expect additional tool trainings and supervision and should be prepared to work independently rather than in a formal class format. Ages 16 and older are welcome, and participants under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. The sessions are led by Boat Shop Manager Cori Shooter with support from a team of volunteers. This first Friday collection focuses on clothing and small household goods in partnership with Goodwill: Olympics & Rainier Region. It is part of Beyond the Bin, a free series of community reuse events that helps keep usable items in circulation. At the weekly drop off at the Tacoma Recovery & Transfer Center, donations go to local nonprofit partners that reuse, repurpose, and redistribute them within the community. Items are accepted on a first come, first served basis, and collection ends once trucks are full. Staff may decline items due to condition, size, demand, market value, or seasonality. Oversized, hazardous, damaged, or items outside accepted categories will not be taken, and participants are responsible for proper disposal of anything declined.
