Part of a summer series of free public talks presented by Explore Fairbanks and the UAF Geophysical Institute, this event takes place in the Morris Thompson Center auditorium and features Rick Thoman exploring why Alaska can still experience cold winters even as the climate warms. At North Star Ballet - Fairbanks, the annual Fall Open House brings together a free class day, the Sue Perry Jordan Celebration ballet class, and a workshop focused on creating secure ballet buns. The summer edition of the Fairbanks Trails Challenge invites people of all ages and abilities to explore local paths through a community scavenger hunt. Parks and Recreation staff place temporary signs in hidden spots along selected routes, and the goal is to visit the trails and find as many signs as you can over the course of the season. Each challenge features new hiding places, so even familiar routes feel different every time. The Summer 2026 lineup spans a wide range of locations, including Griffin Park, Tanana Lakes Recreation Area, Chena Lake Recreation Area, Skyline Ridge Park, Pioneer Park/Alaskaland, Birch Hill Recreation Area, Murphy Dome, Isberg Recreation Area, Creamer’s Field, College Hills Subdivision, UAF North Campus Trails, Fifth Avenue Park in North Pole, Chena River State Recreation Area, and the White Mountains National Recreation Area. The outing begins at the farmhouse and visitor center parking lot at Creamer’s Field, followed by a walk to the bird banding station with stops to talk about songbirds and to see how mist nets are used. The sixth annual Fairbanks Tattoo Expo delivers five full days of live, on-the-spot tattooing, hosted by Ink Masters Tattoo Show. More than 90 award-winning artists come together to offer a wide range of styles, including realism, traditional, new school, black and gray, and color work. Tickets are sold at the door only, with single-day admission priced at $25 and a multi-day pass available for $40. All ages are welcome when minors are accompanied by an adult, and children 15 and under enter free with a parent. Tattoos are available exclusively to guests 18 and older with a valid ID. Throughout the weekend, free raffle drawings will award a total of $1,200 in tattoo work with the attending artist of your choice, with multiple chances to win.
