Competitors aim for 31 laps for a total of 50K, carrying a 20 pound kettlebell for every mile. At least one hand must remain on the bell at all times. Attaching it to gear, stowing it in a bag, dragging, or throwing it is not allowed, and no assistance is permitted on the course. Carrying methods are up to the athlete, including in the hands at the side, in front or behind, or resting on a shoulder, chest, or upper back while still holding it. Gloves are permitted if they are not fastened to the bell. The kettlebell may be set down to rest, but it cannot be advanced without picking it up and carrying it. Each mile must be completed within a set window that shrinks as the event continues. The next loop does not begin until that window opens, so early finishers use the remaining time to recover. Missing a cutoff results in elimination, and eliminated runners do not return to the course and must turn in their kettlebell at the pavilion. Official finishers are those who reach lap 31. The final loop has no time limit, and if multiple athletes remain, rankings are decided by the fastest time on that last mile. Awards are presented in two divisions, male and female. The top three in each division take home custom kettlebell trophies, with first earning a 20 pound bell, second a 15 pound bell, and third a 10 pound bell. Athletes who complete the full sequence receive a finisher medal. Every participant receives a race shirt at packet pickup. Kettlebells are supplied by the event and personal bells are not permitted. All participants must be 18 or older. The start and finish area offers space for tents and personal aid. Crews may help only between laps, not out on the loop, and pacing on the course is not allowed. Water and light snacks are available, though runners should plan to manage their own fueling. The event is held rain or shine, and because later miles can occur in low light, a headlamp is recommended. Race day packet pickup takes place at the Lakeside Pavilion inside the park, with parking and restrooms available. A no refund policy applies, though entries may be transferred to another runner.

Hosted by Finish Line Events LLC, XTERRA Appalachian Trail Fest brings runners, hikers, families, and supporters together for a celebration of Appalachian singletrack and community. Expect rugged mountain terrain with winding narrow paths, steady climbs, quick descents, and technical features throughout. The marathon covers 26.2 miles and is tailored to experienced trail athletes, with long ascents, exposed roots, and sections that require sharp focus. Top finishers earn qualification for the 2027 XTERRA Trail World Championship in Malta. The half marathon spans 13.1 miles on similar terrain in a shorter format and also serves as a qualifier for Malta 2027. A 10K option delivers a shorter challenge with punchy elevation changes and varied footing. For a relaxed experience, the family friendly Halloween Hike is non timed and encourages costumes so participants of all ages can enjoy the trail together. Entry fees are $135 for the marathon, $115 for the half marathon, $55 for the 10K, and $20 for the Halloween Hike. Beyond the races, the festival atmosphere features live music, local vendors, Southern hospitality, and a community first feel. Expect check in and social time surrounding the racing, followed by celebration that welcomes both newcomers and seasoned competitors. Finish Line Events produces trail gatherings that blend challenge, adventure, and inclusivity, pairing professional organization with local charm. Optional Refund Guarantee from SPOT can be added during registration for a small additional cost. If a covered situation prevents participation, a claim is filed directly with SPOT to receive the entry fee back. The event keeps the registration, and SPOT handles the refund process to reduce back and forth.

Christmas Village Festival brings five days of festive shopping and holiday cheer to The BJCC. Several admission options are available. VIP Admission is $30.00 and comes with specific entry rules, including no strollers, wagons, Hulken totes, or any rolling bags, and a requirement that children ages 6 and up hold a VIP ticket since child admission is not accepted for this option. Wheelchairs, mobility aids, and other powered mobility devices are permitted. Early Shopper online admission for ages 13 and up is $20.00 and includes an extra hour to browse. General Adult Admission online for ages 13 and up is $18.00. Children age 5 and under are free with a paying adult. Online purchases include a $1.50 service charge per transaction, and applicable taxes are added at checkout. At the box office, General Adult Admission is $20.00 cash, and children’s tickets for ages 6 to 12 are $7.00 cash. Children’s tickets are available only at the box office.

At Oak Mountain State Park, this family-friendly festival celebrates Appalachian heritage through crafts, folklore, music, and food. Throughout the day, attendees can see live artisan demonstrations, listen to traditional folk music, browse offerings from local vendors, and participate in educational programs and hands-on activities for all ages. An onsite tournament at Highland School welcomes students in grades 3 to 8 for a day of academic challenge, teamwork, and friendly competition. Participants will take part in both individual and team tests, with groups of up to five students. Awards will be presented to individuals and teams in each grade. Interactive activities and games are included. The fee is $15 per student.

This in-person monthly meeting brings together adult LEGO fans to connect with others who share the same interest. It takes place at Bricks & Minifigs in Vestavia Hills. After the meeting, attendees can browse the store's selection, and making a purchase is a way to show appreciation to the host.

Celebrate the spirit of the season in the Cahaba Heights Business District with a free, family-friendly festival featuring holiday shopping, hands-on arts and crafts, strolling violinists, face painting, inflatables, a train, live music, the Grinch, Santa and a photo booth, plus food and beverages. Pop up shops will be on site, and the Heights Express trolley will make a continuous loop among event stops. All activities are free, including the inflatables, train, kids crafts, photo booth with Santa, the Grinch and the Heights Express, while purchases may be required for some food and drinks. The area is part of the Entertainment District, so guests may walk with beverages in designated cups, and outside alcohol is not permitted. Dogs are welcome, though pets cannot ride the Heights Express. Parking is available at CH Elementary and Philadelphia Baptist with a short walk to Murphrees for the Heights Express, as well as at Pipeline and behind The Heights Village, and guests are encouraged to leave the spaces directly in front of retailers and restaurants for quick stops. Enjoy a cheerful community gathering and get an early start on local holiday shopping.

Chart-topping singer-songwriter Jamie MacDonald hits the road with The Left It In The River Tour, delivering a set packed with favorites like "Desperate," "Left It In The River," "My Family," and more. After time on tour with artists such as Chris Tomlin and Benjamin William Hastings, she steps forward with a show of her own created to connect with fans in a fresh way.

Death by 5k returns to Oak Mountain State Park with a 24-hour endurance challenge from RunStrong Event. Participants take on ten 5k runs, each beginning 2.5 hours after the previous one. Runners must be at the line for every start and complete each segment before the next begins. Expect fatigue, overnight miles, and darkness, so bring a headlamp, hand light, or similar illumination. The course starts and finishes near the Dogwood Pavilion at the South Trailhead. It follows the Lake Trail, continues onto Rattlesnake Ridge, and makes a counterclockwise loop back to the start. Between legs, participants may rest in vehicles parked in the lot or set up tents in the grass camping field across the road. Tent sites are first come first served, cost $20 per night, and allow up to four people per site. Campers will need to complete standard paperwork at the park entrance. The tent area includes a bathroom and several shared electrical poles. Truck campers and camper vans may use the parking lot as long as only one space is taken. There is no camping fee for sleeping in the lot, while the tent area requires the nightly fee. A $5 park entry fee is required unless you hold a season pass or have paid for a campsite, which covers this fee. Five hot meals will be served during the event, along with plenty of snacks and drinks. Participants receive an event shirt, and finishers earn a custom-made coffin. Registration opens with a limit of 200 runners. After that, a waitlist will activate and additional spots may be released or the field may be expanded.
