The ensemble also features Sevillian singer Iván Carpio, celebrated for depth and tradition, Miguel “El Cheyenne”, an expert in rhythm and palmas, and dancer Ricardo Fernández “El Tete”, an emerging figure with a solid path in Spain’s premier flamenco venues. Visiting from Armenia, Ethno Colors, one of the country’s most cherished contemporary folk ensembles, takes the stage at The Alex Theatre in Glendale for a one-night concert honoring the 157th birthday of Komitas Vardapet, the composer and ethnomusicologist who dedicated his life to preserving Armenian music. The music will feature traditional instruments and folk melodies, thoughtful reinterpretations of Komitas’s works, and inventive arrangements that connect past and present. The singer, composer, and artist from Oaxaca brings a contemporary Latin sound shaped by jazz, vocal improvisation, and popular rhythms from across Latin America, expressed with a poetic and personal touch. Her relationship with music began in childhood on the violin, alongside the voices of huapango, bolero, and jazz. Influences such as José Alfredo Jiménez, Benny Moré, Joan Manuel Serrat, Víctor Jara, and Héctor Lavoe echo through her songwriting with emotional clarity. Trained in Singing and Scat at the Jazz Academy of the Escuela Superior de Música, she creates at the intersection of tradition and exploration, renewing the spirit of Latin American song through a distinctly Mexican lens.
