Music

Andy McKee

Andy McKee offers a distinctive voice on the steel-string acoustic guitar, composing original works that have reached audiences around the world. As a teenager he gravitated toward modern fingerstyle innovators such as Michael Hedges, Preston Reed, and Don Ross, then set aside the electric guitar to explore the acoustic’s full potential. Through alternate tunings, tapping, partial capos, and percussive effects, he draws the scope of an ensemble from a single instrument. His piece Drifting became one of YouTube’s early viral standouts in 2006, with Rylynn, For My Father, and Into the Ocean following and helping his videos amass hundreds of millions of views while inspiring a new generation of fingerstyle players. He has recorded or toured with John Petrucci, Prince, Eric Johnson, Steve Lukather, and David Foster. Beyond the stage he founded the Musicarium in 2015, a fingerstyle guitar camp that has welcomed guest instructors including Tommy Emmanuel, Eric Johnson, Stanley Jordan, and Don Ross. Recent work includes tripliciti with Trevor Gordon Hall and Calum Graham, an acoustic trio that earned acclaim, with a new solo guitar album and a 20th anniversary re-recording of Art of Motion planned for 2025.
