Jenerator returns to the Golden Gate Park Bandshell for a full band show as part of San Francisco’s largest free concert series. Presented by Illuminate Live in partnership with San Francisco Recreation and Park, the series is free to all and runs from March through October. The more than century-old bandshell provides a historic setting for the music. The Anna Jae Trio opens the program, and Anna Jae will also lend her voice to Jenerator’s set. This appearance marks the group’s third consecutive year with the series.

Friendship

Friendship showcases an expansive take on country music, blending loose, lived-in guitars with gentle flute and organ textures, a groove-forward rhythm section, and Dan Wriggins’ rugged baritone. Their latest Merge Records release, Caveman Wakes Up, drifts between waking life and dreamspace, turning scenes of work, love, and struggle into songs that balance grit and tenderness. Arrangements nod to folk-rock and classic soul with patient fade-outs, steady drums and bass, and layered details that coalesce into the band’s distinct sound. LIMITLESS: A Film Series MAMI WATA

MoAD and SFMOMA present a screening of C.J. “Fiery” Obasi’s Mami Wata, a 107-minute feature from 2023 in West African Pidgin English with English subtitles. After the film, LIMITLESS curator Cornelius Moore will be in conversation with UC Santa Barbara professor Jude Akudinobi. This program is in dialogue with MoAD’s exhibition UNBOUND: Art, Blackness, and the Universe, which approaches Blackness as vast and cosmic, stretching into space, time, and imagination. Through the LIMITLESS film series, acclaimed works from across the African Diaspora gather, spanning the United States and United Kingdom as well as Brazil, the Caribbean, French Guiana, Nigeria, and Zambia. Across narrative, documentary, and experimental forms, these films look toward speculative futures and ancestral memory, move through science fiction and African mythology, and spotlight visionary figures such as Octavia Butler and George Clinton. Together, the exhibition and series encourage audiences to move beyond constraint and imagine new possibilities for being, becoming, and belonging. Select screenings include guest filmmakers and speakers for deeper engagement with the stories and ideas on screen.

After Dark: Out of This World

This edition of After Dark spotlights space with hands-on activities and celestial exploration at Pier 15. Build a custom telescope, hear scientists discuss the search for life beyond Earth, and enjoy a live set from the sax-playing DJ Robot Dream. Food and beverages will be available for purchase at The Tinkering Table Restaurant and at additional bar locations. Admission is included with museum entry, and members and donors receive free access. The Tactile Dome will be open.

Academy of Wine: Spanish Food & Wine Pairing

A collaborative evening at The Academy brings together Wine Director Michael Wells and Mat Schuster, chef owner of Canela Bistro, for a guided exploration of five Spanish wines paired with chef crafted bites that showcase the diversity of Spain’s cuisine. The experience is seated and led by Michael, and bottles can be ordered for retail purchase. Canela Bistro also shares how to make paella. Tastes include Spanish cheeses with chorizo and olives, toasts topped with sobrasada and house made fig jam, a mixed mushroom and artichoke paella with peas, green beans, sofrito, mushroom broth and vegan aioli that is vegan and gluten free, a shrimp and scallop paella with sofrito, seafood broth, peas, green beans and aioli that is dairy free and gluten free, and a sweet finish of churros con chocolate. House music once transformed rooms before social media and spectacle took center stage. This new Moulton Music series asks whether those original conditions still resonate today. Across five installments, each evening focuses on a distinct era, starting with the early 1990s and continuing to 2015. It is not a history lesson or a nostalgia trip, but a live experiment that rebuilds the room, the sound, and the approach to see what remains meaningful. Running alongside The Custodian Project, Chris Lum’s long-form exploration of 25 years in the underground house community, these events bring his personal questions about what the culture gave and what it cost into a shared space. A small room with a big idea encourages a renewed focus on connection and the roots of the music.

An LGBTQ+ dance event rooted in queer identity and trance at its core, the party centers the dancefloor and builds energy from start to finish. Genix headlines with a set that pushes surging euphoria. Jaytech holds the middle stretch with progressive grooves designed to keep the room moving. Kristina Sky opens with finely tuned melodics, a hallmark heard on trance floors from Los Angeles to Ibiza. A free outdoor kids program in the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival’s Children’s Garden series spotlights René y Familia, a multigenerational ensemble rooted in San Francisco’s Peña-Govea family. Songwriter and educator René Peña-Govea leads alongside her son Diego, whose original songs have appeared on the KTVU program SF Loves Learning, and her sister Cecilia Peña-Govea, also known as the reggaeton artist La Doña. Their parents, Susan Peña and Miguel Govea, bandleader of Los Compas, launched the family legacy over twenty years ago with La Familia Peña-Govea, a fixture at community celebrations, festivals, and fundraisers. Carrying that tradition forward, the group brings rancheras, cumbias, merengues, boleros, and sones, pairing festive rhythms with themes of cultural pride, social and emotional awareness, and solidarity. This children’s program offers two performances, including a repeat showing.

Bottom of the Hill hosts a KUSF benefit presented by former station DJs in support of KXSF 102.5 FM, the freeform community radio team that stepped in after KUSF left the air. The lineup spans styles with rap-rockers MCM and the Monster, old-school skate punks The Boneless Ones, and San Francisco pop artist Barbara Manning. All ages are welcome, and the kitchen will be open. Attendees can reconnect with former KUSF DJs, share memories, enter raffles for prizes, and enjoy a full slate of live music.

Sincerity and Sovereignty

Guided by Daniel Brottman, this program invites participants to look beneath inherited concepts and honestly explore what they truly seek from spiritual practice. It emphasizes personal responsibility and self-sovereignty, considering how to hold one’s own views and choices while relating to teachers and traditions with humility and wisdom. Creativity and playfulness are welcomed as part of formal practice, helping the path feel personal, organic, and effective. The session includes guided practice, a dharma talk, and discussion. Practices span body-based meditation, metta practice, Core Transformation to surface deeper longings, and ideal parent figure practice as an attachment healing method. It is open to anyone drawn to these questions and to a fully genuine relationship with spirituality. The program is available in person or online via Zoom. Daniel Brottman is a meditation teacher and emotional integration coach whose background is rooted in the Insight tradition and early Buddhism, informed by later Buddhist traditions and broad inquiry into psychology, spirituality, and contemplative practices. His experience includes over eight months of cumulative silent retreat, mentorship with Tempel Smith, training in Core Transformation and Attachment Alchemy, and teacher training with Inward Bound Mindfulness, where he serves as an assistant teacher. He regularly offers group classes in meditation and dharma practice online and provides individual guidance for practitioners.

A free outdoor program transforms Yerba Buena Gardens into a moving stage for site-specific dance. Presented across two days, performances travel through different areas of the Gardens and celebrate the creativity and range of the Bay Area dance community. Co-curated by David Herrera of David Herrera Performance Company and PUSH Dance Company Artistic Director Raissa Simpson with Associate Artistic Director Ashley Gayle, the event features new work by Vanessa Sanchez & Mezcla, Ishami Dance Company, BrasArte, Yeni Lucero & Dancers, A. Spearman & Co., Sharp & Fine, PUSH Dance Company, and David Herrera Performance Company. Supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts, it is part of Yerba Buena Gardens Festival’s Weekend Sessions series.

Mission City Swing Workshops

Mission City Swing hosts a weekend of West Coast Swing workshops at the Polish Club in San Francisco, led by champions KP Rutland and Bryn Anderson. Winners of the 2023 NASDE tour, they began as partners in 2017 in the Rising Star division, then moved into the Classic category after a dominant run on the West Coast Swing circuit. They now teach and compete at more than 30 events each year, known for blending isolations and hip hop influences. Their two most recent routines earned 4th and 2nd at The Open Swing Dance Championships. Across two days, the program features competitor-focused sessions and leveled classes, including options for Novice and Intermediate competitors, Advanced and All-Star dancers, Level 2/3 and Level 3/4 workshops, plus an all-levels session. A social dance party is planned for the final evening after the workshops. A detailed schedule and pricing are provided by the organizers, with pre-registration available. Masks are not required. Attendees are encouraged to make choices that fit their personal risk level and to refrain from attending if feeling unwell. The organizers indicate that refunds for weekend passes may be possible in cases of illness.

Hungry Tables and Makeplease present an evening of creativity, community, and cocktails in downtown San Francisco. With guidance from San Francisco born artist and RISD graduate Haley Davis, participants will paint Summer in San Francisco, a Golden Gate Bridge scene appearing through the city’s signature fog. Step by step instruction keeps the experience welcoming for first time painters and satisfying for those with experience. This night suits date nights, birthdays, team outings, and anyone interested in meeting new people. Expect art, drinks, and conversation at Hungry Tables near Moscone Center, followed by an After Party to keep the energy going. General Admission is $85 and includes a guided Paint and Sip session, all supplies and materials, one complimentary signature cocktail or mocktail, access to the After Party, and reserved seating. Additional food and beverages are available for purchase. VIP Experience is $115 and includes everything in General Admission plus premium reserved seating and expanded beverage perks. Under Friedl’s Wing

At the children’s barracks in Theresenshadt, artist Friedl Dicker-Brandeis fostered creativity with almost nothing, turning scavenged paper, a few paints, and a single window into a brief haven of imagination. Inspired by that legacy, Under Friedl’s Wing is a puppet and painted-object performance with music and participatory artmaking for the audience. It shares a difficult chapter of history through simple means, underscoring the strength of love and hope over destruction. Presented at Manny’s for one night ahead of a European tour, the production is created and performed by Jennifer Levine, directed by Jeff Raz, with vocals by Diana Naparst and accordion by Brad Friedman.

Chant of Compassion/ Mehrkhani 2

Mehrkhani II presents the second installment of a concert series that honors Kurdish and Persian musical traditions while raising support for civilians impacted by the war in Iran. The program spans both traditional and contemporary works and aims to foster solidarity, compassion, and hope through music. All proceeds are directed to the KCIS Foundation to provide humanitarian aid for people inside Iran who have been affected by the conflict. Featured performers include Rojan on vocals, Nasim Khorasani on daf, Mahgol Sohofi on kamancheh, Kajwan Ziaoddini on santour, Siamak Barghi on tombak, and Sina Dibay on percussion, with Sirvan Manhoobi contributing music and oud.

Enjoy a live Cuban salsa party with no cover charge, featuring Guajirón, a 10-piece Vintage Cuban Pop band from San Francisco. This is a Cuban jam at the Boom Boom Room where the dance floor stays busy, the grooves are tropical, and no salsa experience is required. A salsa class takes place beforehand to get everyone moving. Musicians are welcome to sign up to play with the band, with charts and lyrics provided and rotating spots on stage. Expect authentic Cuban dance music accented by touches of tropical jazz that nod to the connection between Cuba and New Orleans. The orchestra’s percussion-forward sound, bright horns, tres guitar, piano, bass, and two lead vocalists keep the energy up while guests relax with drinks or hit the floor. DIY Taxidermy Raccoon Head Mount Workshop

A hands-on class devoted to creating a raccoon head mount is back after a long hiatus. Designed for both first-timers and returning students, it offers guided, step-by-step instruction from master taxidermist Mr. Vassallo so participants can complete a finished piece. Mr. Vassallo brings more than thirty-five years of professional taxidermy and teaching experience, with fieldwork across Continental North America, Alaska, Hawaii, Mexico, Europe, and Africa focused on studying, collecting, and preserving wildlife. Along the way, expect insights about raccoons themselves. These adaptable relatives of bears thrive in many environments, from hollow trees to abandoned vehicles. Their dexterous, five-fingered hands allow them to manipulate objects like shells, doors, and trash can lids. They are also known to wet food before eating, a habit that enhances their already sensitive sense of touch. Advance registration is required because materials are prepared for each student and space is very limited. Attendees should be over 14 years old, and anyone under 18 must attend with an adult. Special exceptions may be considered with prior approval before purchasing a spot. Bringing lunch or snacks is encouraged, and arriving promptly at the start time helps the class run smoothly. Cancellations made at least 72 hours before the class date are converted to credit that can be used for store merchandise or another workshop. Cancellations within 72 hours, or failure to attend, result in no refund or transfer.

At ABADA-Capoeira San Francisco, Sweat Your Prayers is a 5Rhythms movement meditation where people gather to move, breathe, sweat, and reconnect with the body. Rooted in San Francisco since 2014, this longstanding community practice welcomes all bodies and every level of experience. Guided by music with minimal talking, there are no set steps or choreography, simply space to express what is present for you. The session moves through Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness, encouraging personal exploration within a shared field. Created by Gabrielle Roth, the 5Rhythms approach supports freedom, expression, release, and presence through movement, embracing sweat as a deepening of the practice. Expect a barefoot experience in an inclusive, beginner friendly environment. Bring a water bottle, comfortable clothes, your curiosity, and a friend if you wish. Plan to arrive a few minutes early to settle in, as doors close shortly after the opening to support a focused container and continuous flow. If running late, sending a message ahead is helpful. To Noh and Beyond invites the San Francisco Bay Area community into a constellation of experiences connected to In a Memory Palace. The series includes two workshops priced at $50 each: Writing New Noh: Architectures of Poetry and Time, a writer’s workshop with Theatre Nohgaku founding company member David Crandall at JCCCNC in Japantown, and A Practice of Stillness in Time, a Noh movement workshop with Theatre Nohgaku founding company member Jubilith Moore, co-sponsored by JCCCNC in Japantown. Performances are free with reservation and feature Getting to Noh, a lecture and demonstration with Theatre Nohgaku company members and special guest artists at NOHspace, along with Composing Noh in Waltz Time, a music performance and discussion with In a Memory Palace composers David Crandall and Dr. Kevin Salfen and cast members, moderated by Jay Ilan, at the San Francisco Public Library, Main Branch, Koret Auditorium. Commedia dell'arte with Skyler Sullivan

Explore the energetic world of Commedia dell’arte in a practical session guided by Skyler Sullivan. Through character-based movement, collaborative play, and the crafting of rehearsed comic bits known as lazzi, participants work on the fundamentals of comic structure and onstage relationships. The session connects this 16th century Italian tradition to the lineage of Western humor, from Shakespeare and vaudeville to modern sitcoms, and offers tools to sharpen physical precision and create bolder, more expressive characters. All experience levels are welcome. Wear comfortable clothing that allows free movement and come ready to play. Skyler Sullivan studied at Emerson College, earning a BFA in Acting and Musical Theatre, and trained in physical comedy with Tony Montanaro at Celebration Barn Theatre. Work includes collaborations with the San Francisco Mime Troupe, Bread and Puppet, Sesame Street, and The American Mime Theatre, along with training at the SF Circus Center. Sullivan is a graduate of an international school of comic acting focused on Commedia dell’arte in Reggio Emilia, Italy, and holds an MFA in Acting from Brooklyn College. Sullivan currently serves as Director of Education and Training for Healthy Humor, a national nonprofit bringing joy and clown to hospitalized children.

Santa Cruz Garden of Eden Hike & Hidden Gem Swimming Hole

Enjoy a short, easy hike beneath the Santa Cruz redwoods that leads to the famed Garden of Eden, a hidden swimming hole along the river that can be tricky to find. A knowledgeable UD host will guide the route and share insight about the trails and river access. Expect fresh air, beautiful forest views, and time for a refreshing dip. The outing includes a picnic lunch, trail logistics and river know-how, snacks and water, and guidance from an experienced UD host. Bring day-hike essentials such as comfortable hiking shoes, layers, a backpack, water and snacks, plus swim gear like beachwear or a swimsuit with water sandals, and a towel. Sturdy footwear is recommended for the hike in and out, and sunblock and a refillable water bottle are suggested. Alcohol is not allowed at this park, and glass is never permitted at the river. Bringing a small trash bag supports Leave No Trace.

The bill also features Lealani, a self-taught singer, multi-instrumentalist, and producer whose live set blends beat machines, guitar, synths, and a distinctive vocal approach across art-pop, trip-hop, electronic, punk, and rock, with credits that include international touring and music placements on Elite, Shoresy, and David Choe’s Choe Show. In Search of the Perfect Cast Casting Lessons

In Search of the Perfect Cast offers an after-work fly casting session focused on deliberate practice and skill-building drills. It grew out of casual evenings when a few casting aficionados gathered at the ponds with a bottle of whiskey to trade insights about the subtleties of the fly cast. That tradition continues with friendly company, a little booze, and clear advice while you refine your technique. Instruction welcomes every experience level and emphasizes foundational concepts you can continue exploring on your own time and on the stream, such as loop shape, timing, and trajectory. The session also covers the finer points of single hand Spey techniques. Participants can try a variety of tackle, from modern graphite rods to classic bamboo and fiberglass. Teaching is led by George Revel, an IFFF Master Certified Casting Instructor, past president of Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club, California Trout Ambassador, national casting champion, and owner of Lost Coast Outfitters, The San Francisco Fly Shop. Owen Quincy is a San Francisco based musician who first trained in opera during college, spending summers singing in Italian opera houses. She discovered the piano as a child, trained classically in Romania, detoured into law school, then returned to her first loves of singing and piano. While developing a feature documentary set in Transylvania, she began writing songs to navigate change and tell her story, culminating in Secrets of Light, which she premieres on this bill. Moonlit Moves in San Francisco presents a full evening of West Coast Swing at The Polish Club Inc. of San Francisco, blending instruction with plenty of social dancing. Felipa Mendez teaches the Open Levels class, which is intended for those already comfortable with West Coast Swing fundamentals, while champion instructor Austin Kois leads the beginners class. Both lessons are drop in, and no partner or preregistration is required. A special add on line dance session with Felipa starts the night, and DJ Chris Nicol provides the soundtrack for social dancing afterward. The brownie prelims bakeoff continues with bakers Diana and Kieran, and attendees can vote for a favorite to advance to the semifinals. Their history spans a breakthrough album, a steady stream of adventurous releases, appearances on late night television, and collaborations with artists such as Solange, Janelle Monáe, and Jon Brion. This free outdoor program in the Yerba Buena Gardens Festival Children’s Garden series features Unique Derique, a longtime Bay Area favorite known for clever clowning, inventive physical comedy, and hambone-inspired body percussion. Also known as Lance McGee, he started performing as a teenager with Circus A La Mode and later joined San Francisco’s Pickle Family Circus. He is a licensed drama therapist and school counselor who brings mindfulness into his teaching. His playful sketches have entertained audiences in neighborhood parks and at Harlem’s Apollo Theater, with collaborations that range from Bobby McFerrin to The Temptations. At The Independent, regional air guitar champions from across the United States gather in the Bay to compete for the national crown. One performer will be named the US Air Guitar Champion and will go on to represent the United States at the Air Guitar World Championships in Finland. This event is all ages. US Air Guitar, the organization that runs the national championships, also produces the Air Guitar All-Stars program that has aired on ESPN, along with the documentary Air Guitar Nation. Sharing the bill, Ultimate Fakebook draws on 70s power pop influences such as Cheap Trick and the sharp edge of 80s garage rock like the Replacements. Their 1999 album This Will Be Laughing Week was reissued in 2000 by 550/Epic Records and is a cornerstone of their catalog. The trio reunited in 2020 for The Preserving Machine on Sonic Ritual Recordings, revisiting the energy of their early work with added lyrical maturity, and the lineup includes two US Air Guitar Hall of Famers.

This river outing is billed as the biggest of the year, perfect for beating the summer heat with a relaxed tubing float. There is no whitewater, just an easy cruise down the river with super-soakers, music, and laid-back vibes on an annual lazy river day trip. The experience includes a tube, with the option to bring your own, plus pre-packaged snacks, water, a planned route with shuttle logistics, and a waterproof speaker for music, and bringing a favorite playlist is encouraged. Plan for swimsuits, a cover up, and dry clothes for after. A PFD or life jacket is not required on the river, however it is highly recommended if you will be drinking. Pack two pairs of shoes, for the water and for after, and choose footwear that works over rocks and on dirt trails such as water shoes and tennis shoes. Bring plenty of your own water since only limited bottles will be available to cut down on single-use plastic, along with sunglasses, a sun hat, and sunscreen. A packed lunch or extra snacks, BYOB while avoiding glass, a dry bag or waterproof phone case, and an optional water gun are all good additions, and a great attitude will fit right in.

6th Annual Sober Beach Party, Beach Volleyball and Bonfire

Now in its sixth year, this sober pride beach day and bonfire gathers the community at Ocean Beach for a full day by the shore. The plan is to arrive in the morning to secure a fire pit and stay into the evening. Drinks and snacks will be available, and attendees are encouraged to bring their own meals, blankets, chairs, and any extra burnable wood. Layers are recommended as it can get chilly after dark. A beach volleyball setup and other beach games will be on hand, and a gratitude meeting is planned around sunset. Organizers aim to set up near the Beach Chalet restaurant, with the exact spot to be shared on the day, and plans may be adjusted or canceled if the weather does not cooperate. Volunteer opportunities are available, and all are welcome.

Deaf Beach Party SF DNO anniversary

The 8th anniversary of the SF Deaf Beach Bonfire brings Deaf Night Out to the Ocean Beach fire pits and transitions into a night beach party. This is a family friendly gathering, and anyone under 18 must be supervised by their own adult. A community potluck is planned, with contributions organized by last name: A to F bring a main dish, G to N a salad, O to U a vegetable, and V to Z a dessert. All food should be pre-cooked. Bring your own essentials including warm coats, blankets, wood, drinks, and beach games such as football or a volleyball net, and please leave glass containers at home. Time around the fire pits is expected, and everyone is responsible for packing out trash so the area stays clean. If a Spare the Air alert is issued, the fire portion may be canceled, though the beach meetup will still take place. Look for the group near the staircase labeled 16 at the north end of Ocean Beach. The fire pits are close to the windmill and across from the Beach Chalet, with convenient parking and straightforward access. Public transit options include the Muni 5 bus and a walk from the N Judah line, and riders from downtown BART can connect to the Muni 5. Nearby amenities include the Beach Chalet for restrooms and a Safeway on La Playa at Fulton. Sweat Your Prayers SF

A Sunday 5Rhythms gathering invites people to move, breathe, sweat, and reconnect through the body. Held in San Francisco since 2014, this long-running community practice welcomes dancers of every background and experience level. Through the five rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical, and Stillness, participants explore what is present within them, both individually and together. It is a movement meditation with music and very little verbal guidance, with no choreography to memorize and plenty of room to discover a personal way of dancing. Expect a barefoot, beginner friendly space that is open to all bodies and shaped by an inclusive community. Bringing water, comfortable clothes, and a sense of curiosity is encouraged, and coming with a friend is welcome. Participants are invited to arrive a few minutes early to settle in, and doors close shortly after the opening to support focus and an uninterrupted flow. If running late, giving the organizers a heads up is appreciated when possible. Rooted in Gabrielle Roth’s 5Rhythms, the practice supports freedom, expression, release, and presence through movement, where working up a sweat can feel like a simple form of prayer.

Beyond the Fence 2026

Now in its 18th year, this celebration of creativity, community, and forward fashion returns to The Midway SF. The trunk show highlights independent designers with styles suited for the playa as well as bold self expression beyond it. Color Your Mind

This free outdoor program from Yerba Buena Gardens Festival is curated by East Bay percussionist Sameer Gupta of Rootstock Arts and brings together artists who push classical Indian music and related traditions into new directions. Carnatic violinist and vocalist Sruti Sarathy shares a distinctive approach shaped by South Indian training and influences from the Hindustani lineage. Multi-instrumentalist Siddique Ahmed, also known as Sohrab and a founding member of Kabul Dreams, features the lute-like rubab, recognized as Afghanistan’s national instrument. Delhi-born Suhail Yusuf Khan, from a renowned musical family, performs on vocals and sarangi, a bowed instrument with a short neck and three strings known for a voice-like tone. Each artist offers a personal set that explores improvisation within Hindustani and Carnatic raga traditions, often described as a concept that colors the mind. The spirit of the event highlights that this music is meant for everyone. A vendor market will be part of the day.
