A safari themed back to school community day at Balboa Park in San Francisco brings families together to help local students start the year confident and prepared. Its vivid greens and blues signal a potent defense, earned during the caterpillar stage by feeding on toxic Omphalea plants and storing those chemicals for flight. In this two-hour session, participants learn the complete pinning process from hydration through spreading and long-term preservation, guided step by step by an expert instructor. A Paxton Gate spreading kit is used to prepare a specimen that you will take home. The kit includes a box of entomology pins, an anchor pin, four strips of vellum paper, forceps, a pinning board, and a printed instruction pamphlet. Classes take place in San Francisco.
