    Morro Bay State Park Campout

Morro Bay State Park, Morro Bay · verified Jul 31
    See details

Set out for a four-night, Tuesday through Saturday campout at Morro Bay State Park, part of a broader series exploring California State Parks. Leader led easy and moderate hikes are offered daily to local highlights, including giant Morro Rock, pygmy oak trees, and a rugged landscape formed largely by volcanic forces. Within the park, saltwater marshes support a thriving bird population, the volcanic peaks Black Hill and Cerro Cabrillo rise above the bay, and the Museum of Natural History adds perspective on the area’s natural features. Expect moderate coastal weather, with summer days often 30 degrees cooler than inland areas. A nearby community located 1.5 miles north of the campground provides gas stations, grocery stores, dining, and other conveniences. The group campground features fire pits, grills, picnic tables, flush toilets, a drinking water spigot, and a camp host, with showers just steps from a secluded group campsite. A large meadow set apart from the main campground offers ample space for tent sites. Sign-up is handled through the Sierra Club website.
