Give young dogs a confident start with a puppy socialization course that blends gentle exposure and practical training. In a supportive setting, puppies meet new people and dogs and encounter a variety of sights and sounds so everyday life feels safe and familiar. Caregivers learn how to make grooming, vet visits, and everyday handling easier. Foundational skills are introduced, including settling calmly on a mat, sitting when asked, coming when called, walking politely on leash, and touching a target. The curriculum also covers early-life essentials such as preventing resource guarding, building comfort with crates, house training, and managing teething. This course meets once a week for six weeks at the same time each week, and this event is the first class in the series. Puppies must be 8 to 16 weeks old at the start of class.

A weekly Pokémon Trading Card Game club for teens and tweens takes place in the TeenZone at the Cesar E. Chavez Branch library. Participants can learn how the game works, practice building decks, open packs, and connect with fellow players in a welcoming environment.

All courses start and finish at the Hayward Shoreline Interpretive Center, where runners can take in wide bay views and refreshing coastal breezes. Every entrant receives a commemorative T-shirt and a finisher medal, and participation helps support the Center’s education and conservation work. Strollers are welcome in the family fun run.
