Launched in 2022, the Afro-Filipino Jazz Project is a collaborative space where Afro Filipinx, African American, and Filipino American musicians explore a wide spectrum of styles with a focus on jazz traditions, African American musical roots, and traditional and folkloric Filipino sounds. It starts with a Queer ASL meetup that invites all ages and a range of signing experience, then continues at an arcade bar for a relaxed night out centered on queer Deaf folks and signing allies. The later gathering is intended for conversational signers, with advanced learners, fluent CODAs, and interpreters welcome, and it is not designed for beginning hearing ASL 1 or 2 students. Deaf Queer community members co-host. The group may move on to other bars or wrap up early depending on energy, so the spot can change as the night goes on. The arcade bar serves food and drinks, including some vegetarian and vegan options and a few gluten free items, though the kitchen is not dedicated gluten free. Entry is step free and two bathrooms are labeled accessible, but reaching them can be difficult when arcade games and players narrow the path. Larger power chairs or wide mobility devices may not be able to get through, and a nearby public restroom can serve as a backup. Blind and low vision guests should note that game controls and parts can protrude at knee or waist height and may shift, creating possible trip or jab hazards on the way to and from the bathrooms.
