Two-Step Tuesdays

Two-Step Tuesdays brings country flair to Base Village with live music, line dancing, and mountain vibes. The evening flows from an opening set to guided line dance instruction with Brian and Claudia Pawl of Mezcla Socials Dance, then continues with more live tunes, plenty of room to practice, and helpful coaching on the floor. Newcomers and seasoned two-steppers are equally welcome. Onstage, Richard Ganson appears alongside Randy Utterback. Ganson has shared bills with Vince Gill, Travis Tritt, Asleep at the Wheel, and John Conlee, and has performed on the main stage at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival. Utterback is a veteran multi-instrumentalist on acoustic and electric guitar, fiddle, mandolin, and dobro, drawing on decades of work in Nashville, Colorado, and beyond, including collaborations with members of The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Poco, and Buffalo Springfield. Expect a lively blend of classic and modern country, along with tributes to Colorado musicians and local songwriters. Familiar favorites span artists like Hank Williams, Merle Haggard, Brooks & Dunn, Garth Brooks, Chris Stapleton, and Thomas Rhett, with surprise guest appearances possible across the season. Brian and Claudia teach with an inclusive, community-first spirit shaped by years of experience across Country, Swing, Salsa, Bachata, Tango, Folklorico, and Contemporary styles. Their approach keeps the dance floor welcoming for all ages and experience levels.

Workshops & Classes

Songwriting Sessions

A new music workshop series begins with a songwriting session led by Jan Garrett and JD Martin. The focus is on the craft and structure of writing songs, with guided exercises designed to build skills and ignite creativity. Follow-up workshops will offer space to share original work and receive constructive feedback. Garrett has recorded and toured with John Denver and with Steve Martin during his stand-up years, and appeared on The Tonight Show. She performed with Dirt Band on the historic 1977 Soviet Tour and was later included in Rolling Stone’s Who’s Who in Rock & Roll. Her songs have earned multiple honors in positive music and have been arranged, published and widely distributed by Cypress Music, a Canadian choral music company. Martin is the writer behind five number one and ten Top Ten country and pop singles, with recordings by Reba McEntire, Terri Clark, B.J. Thomas, Peter Cetera and the Oak Ridge Boys, and he has received more than 15 ASCAP awards in Nashville and Los Angeles. Together they have taught many workshops in the Roaring Fork Valley. This workshop is funded by the Basalt Public Arts Commission and the Town of Basalt.
