Hayden Play and Learn offers a relaxed morning of open play paired with a weekly theme for caregivers and their little ones, presented by the Family Development Center’s Newborn Network. Children can move, explore, and make friends while adults connect with other local families. Attend a single session or make it part of a weekly routine. September’s themes include All About Me, Little Explorers, Our World, Our Experiences, Hello, Neighbor, Itsy Bitsy Fun, Monkey See, Monkey Do, Keep Trying, Keep Exploring, Curious Minds, Busy Hands, and Tiny Tries, Big Discoveries. Featured reading for the month includes Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? and The Watermelon Seed, with the nursery rhyme of the month, Monkey See, Monkey Do.

Take a peek into collection care at the Steamboat Springs History Museum with a short guided visit led by the curator. Over the course of about thirty minutes, explore storage areas that house thousands of preserved artifacts and learn how items are protected and organized. Admission is free, and walk-ins are welcome without a reservation.

Stories take center stage through playful, hands-on activities designed for young children at the Bud Werner Memorial Library. Participants will re-imagine a beloved children’s book using Story Baskets, which incorporate items related to characters and settings to support retelling, creativity, and early literacy growth. Activities are geared toward toddlers and preschoolers ages 2 to 5, with many offering a take-home bag to extend the experience. This free program has limited capacity and operates on a first come, first served basis. Held in the Children’s Storytime Room each Wednesday morning.

Celebrate the debut of the Emerald Park Playground with a community gathering that highlights a fresh space to climb, slide, swing, spin, ride, and explore. The event features a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the official opening, welcoming families and neighbors to experience the new play areas together.

Steamboat Springs Middle School hosts a lively after school festival designed for middle school students, featuring bounce houses, face painting, hair tinsel, fair games, and a variety of food and drink. Entry is $20 per child, with optional bracelets available for food and games at $5 or $10. The event takes place on the Middle School track.

Snow Bowl Steamboat hosts a free community appreciation party presented by Family Bowl, featuring live music by Wish You Were Pink. The gathering recognizes the Yampa Valley’s first responders for their work protecting the community during wildfire season. The Routt First Responders Foundation will be onsite with a fire truck available for tours. All onsite donations will benefit the foundation, which supports Routt County first responders and their families through protection, celebration, and assistance. Family Bowl, a nonprofit giving program, organizes togetherness events and partners with local organizations to raise funds for community members in need.

Celebrate the one-year milestone of the Campbell family’s ownership of Paws ’n Claws with a store-wide sale and a full day of activities. Brand representatives will be on hand and there will be in-store experiences and giveaways throughout the event. Expect a hopeful lineup of adoptable dogs and cats in partnership with Routt County Humane Society, Mountain Pet Rescue, and other local rescue groups. It marks the first anniversary of the new Paws ’n Claws and a chance to enjoy a lively pet-focused celebration.

Enjoy delicious food, play fun games, get creative with hands-on crafts, and take in lively music. Pumpkins will be plentiful, adding festive flair for kids and families throughout the day.

Spend an afternoon at Fish Creek Falls with moms and kids of all ages for an easy hike to the overlook followed by a potluck picnic. The plan is to start at the overlook trail, take the paved loop down to the picnic tables, enjoy waterfall views, then gather to eat and connect while the kids play. Bring something to share for the potluck, water, comfortable walking shoes, and any essentials for you and your child such as a picnic blanket, diaper bag, carrier or stroller, sunscreen, and hats. Potluck details will be shared a few days in advance, and store-bought items are welcome. One of the organizers will bring pasta salad made with Brami pasta, a sponsor of the event. Parking at Fish Creek Falls is $5 per vehicle or free with an America the Beautiful Pass. Please leave dogs at home. Moms-to-be and moms with children of any age are welcome. Meeting point is the start of the Fish Creek Falls Overlook Trail.
