Gain confidence exploring the Colorado backcountry in a hands-on two day course that pairs time tested map and compass skills with modern digital tools. You can take either of the two modules on their own, or complete both together at a discount. Module one focuses on analog navigation. You will practice reading topographic maps, understanding terrain features, and making thoughtful route choices. Training moves from classroom discussion to field exercises where you take and follow bearings and navigate real terrain without relying on a phone or battery. Module two introduces digital navigation with platforms such as CalTopo. Work through full trip planning, create and share routes, manage offline maps, record GPS tracks, and apply digital tools in the field alongside paper maps and a compass. Tips for extending battery life are included, and scenario based practice reinforces integration of analog and digital methods. Across both modules, instruction is balanced with hands-on application. Participants learn to plan efficient routes, stay oriented, adjust to changing conditions, and combine tools for confident, safe travel in Colorado and beyond. The course includes a professional instructor, a printed topographic map, and a certificate of completion. It does not include food, snacks, water, gratuity for the instructor, or a baseplate compass such as a Suunto A-10 or equivalent.

Stifel Birds of Prey grows into a full Audi FIS World Cup ski racing festival at Beaver Creek with both men’s and women’s competitions. The fastest skiers tackle a renowned downhill course, and the women return for super-G as well, all amid the energy of race week with lively après and a vibrant village scene. Men’s and women’s races are planned in separate blocks to create multiple days of high-speed action and celebrations throughout the village. The schedule is preliminary and subject to final approval by the FIS Council.

A four-night winter getaway in Summit County brings skiers and riders to Copper Mountain and Arapahoe Basin with a lively group and a comfortable home base. The trip centers around a large private mountain lodge about 15 minutes from Copper and roughly 25 minutes from A-Basin. The chalet features eight bedrooms and five bathrooms, two roomy living areas, a private hot tub, a spacious deck with a grill, and a ping pong table, creating plenty of room to relax. Both resorts are included on the Ikon Pass, with unlimited access available on Ikon and Ikon Base options. The final morning focuses on checkout and carpools back to the airport. The schedule may be updated as the trip approaches. Included in the price are four nights in the private chalet plus a well-stocked kitchen with breakfasts, premium coffee, riding snacks, and ingredients for the group’s home-cooked dinners, along with the welcome pizza night. Not included are flights to Denver, Ikon Pass or lift tickets, daily on-mountain lunches and independent meals out, and rental cars. Car rentals are coordinated into carpools so participants can share costs. The total cost is $425 per person. Full payment via Venmo secures a spot. There is a 48-hour window for a full refund, after which a $50 portion is nonrefundable. Reservations are also refundable up to the stated deadline minus the $50 deposit, and after that become nonrefundable unless a replacement from the waitlist fills the spot.
