North Haven hosts a blues showcase with Rocky Lawrence, a guitarist and singer rooted in the country blues of Robert Johnson. Known for a classic stage look with matching suit, Dobbs hat, and two-toned shoes, he plays a Gibson Robert Johnson model worn at the fingerboard. His path started on trumpet at age nine in a Connecticut home filled with the music of Louis Armstrong and Mahalia Jackson, then shifted to guitar under the influence of Jimi Hendrix. Tracing those sounds back led him through Muddy Waters to Robert Johnson and Son House, and he notes Johnson’s ties to contemporaries like Son House and Lonnie Johnson. The music features slide work and alternating bass patterns that carry the storytelling tradition of early blues. Boutique wines and refreshing hard ciders from Apple Theory Cidery are available in the tasting room.

A four piece band brings a high energy celebration of 90s rock, powered by dedication and strong musicianship. The set blends rock, alternative, and grunge, featuring hits from Pearl Jam, U2, Foo Fighters, Collective Soul, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple Pilots, 3 Doors Down, and Gin Blossoms.

At Hubbard Park, this fourth annual memorial road race brings together runners and walkers for a 5K, with a kids fun run held just before the main event. The race honors Bobby Lynes, a lifelong resident of Meriden, and channels donations and proceeds to The Robert J. Lynes Memorial Fund to support preservation and beautification of the park. Previous editions helped install a commemorative bench, funded additional daffodil plantings, and contributed to the Daffodil Festival, including an anniversary fireworks display. Registration is online only. The 5K uses tiered pricing of $25, $30, or $35 depending on the registration window, while the kids run is free. Early 5K registrants receive event T-shirts. Awards recognize the top three men and top three women overall, along with first place in each age group. After the race, a raffle featuring gift cards and baskets will be held, and each race registrant receives a free ticket. Roba Physical Therapy and Wellness will be on site offering complimentary massages and Normatec compression boots, plus the opportunity for free movement screens at their clinic for all attendees.

At Blue Trail Range, this rifle and pistol training day is intended for shooters with an intermediate or higher skill level. Participants work through structured drills that emphasize engaging multiple targets, moving with control, tightening accuracy, and using barricades. A shot timer and scored targets provide measurable feedback for each course of fire. Wear the gear configuration that fits your needs, whether low-visibility holsters and magazine pouches or overt setups like gun belts and tactical vests. Training includes steel target work, so ammunition must be solid copper jacketed lead core. Do not bring light armor piercing loads such as XM193 or SS109 steel core, Russian bi-metal, or any other round that does not meet these requirements. If ammunition restrictions apply, there will be ample paper target work with appropriate rounds. Plan to run a semi-automatic carbine or rifle with a tactical sling, along with a handgun. Bring at least five magazines for each platform, about 300 rounds for rifle and 300 for pistol, and a magazine pouch for the long gun. Use a strong-side draw holster only and pair it with a sturdy belt; small of back, ankle, shoulder, and cross-draw holsters are not permitted. Eye and ear protection are required, with electronic hearing protection preferred. Wear closed-toe shoes and dress for the weather. Pack water, a chair, and lunch. There is a restaurant on site that may not be open, and the schedule allows 45 minutes for a meal. Optional additions include a red dot sight, a low power optic, and spare batteries for electronics. A limited selection of items may be available to borrow or rent.
