In its fifth year, the Mystic Apple Festival celebrates the fall season with a mix of vendors. Browse arts and crafts and specialty hand-knit items, then enjoy seasonal treats featuring maple, pumpkin, apple, and caramel. The event offers a weekend of free fun for families.

3HL brings an acoustic full-band set to the Olde Mistick Village 5th Annual Apple Festival, presented live and unplugged and featuring a mix of favorite covers and original songs.

Now in its eighth year, this festive paddle pairs Halloween fun with a community coat drive on the Mystic River. Costumes are encouraged, especially witch-themed outfits, and participants are asked to bring a new or gently used coat for the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center. The fee is $25 per person. This is a bring-your-own-boat outing for experienced paddlers only, welcoming kayaks, paddleboards, canoes, and pedal kayaks. Each paddler must have a PFD, a paddle, and a leash, and rentals are not available. Advance registration is required, and on-site signups are not offered. A registration link will be provided soon. After the paddle, a barbecue with a DJ is planned, and bringing a side dish or snack is welcome. Prizes will be awarded to the top three costumes. A rain date is planned.

Mystic Aquarium presents its annual Run Walk for the Penguins, offering a choice between a 5K run and a 2-mile walk, with every mile supporting conservation efforts for critically endangered African penguins. Registration includes admission to the aquarium on the day of the event. Attendees can look forward to appearances by African penguins before the start, music from 107.7, and breakfast burritos from a local food truck. Free stretch sessions will be offered by Stretch Zone Mystic, and Athletic Brewing Company will provide refreshing non-alcoholic beer. Young participants can take part in a Kids Fun Run, and original penguin artwork will be awarded to top finishers and fundraisers. Family-friendly activities and penguin-themed fun will be available throughout the event.

Local experts will share interactive demonstrations, health screenings, and guidance on nutrition, stress management, fitness options, and holistic care. Attendees can visit informative booths, take part in fitness demonstrations and mini classes, and enjoy product samples and vendor giveaways. The atmosphere is family friendly with convenient parking. This third annual yoga class honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month with a team-taught session guided by multiple instructors and centered on community, movement, and purpose. Participants are encouraged to wear pink and bring friends. After class, pink-themed refreshments and raffles will be available. The class is donation based and all proceeds benefit the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

The EMS & FIRE PRO Expo at Mohegan Sun brings together education, hands-on discovery, and networking for the emergency services community. Complimentary admission to a 120,000 square foot exhibit hall invites everyone to explore offerings from more than 180 exhibitors, featuring the latest in response equipment, fire apparatus, ambulances, medical technology, communication tools, software, uniforms, and more. A dedicated pre-conference day features the Pediatric Symposium and the Weathering the Storm Summit, uniting emergency managers, meteorologists, healthcare professionals, and first responders to strengthen cross-discipline preparedness and response. Throughout the week, attendees can choose from over 100 sessions led by nationally recognized instructors and industry leaders, covering EMS, fire service, leadership, and emergency readiness for every level of responder, including EMRs, EMTs, AEMTs, paramedics, firefighters, dispatchers, police officers, nurses, physicians, students, and emergency managers. Evening social gatherings offer additional time to connect, share ideas, and build camaraderie across departments. Organized by dedicated volunteers serving the first responder and healthcare community, the expo reinvests proceeds to grow and improve the experience each year.

Bank Square Books presents an author talk and signing with Brittany Perham, highlighting her memoir Executrix. The book opens with a poignant puzzle: after years apart, her father revised his will just before his death to appoint her executor. Perham follows the demanding work of closing an indebted estate through the lens of foreclosure notices, tax reviews, and medical files, while simultaneously shaping the scattered pieces of a life into narrative. By setting the bookkeeping of an executor beside the craft of writing, she examines the experience of being the child of an alcoholic, the challenge of stitching together fragmented or missing memories, and the question of what counts as truth in nonfiction. With wit, care, and inventive structure, the memoir probes family histories, long-held secrets, and the very form of life writing. Perham is the author of Double Portrait, winner of the Barnard Women Poets Prize, as well as The Curiosities, and, with Kim Addonizio, the collaborative word and art project The Night Could Go in Either Direction. Her work appears in Poetry, Prairie Schooner, Gulf Coast, Poetry Society of America, the San Francisco Chronicle, and more, and has earned support from the Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Hemingway House, the James Merrill House Foundation, Vermont Studio Center, the Wallace Stegner Fellowship Program, and Yaddo. She lives in San Francisco.

Nightshift returns to Centrale at Foxwoods, located in the middle of the Fox Tower Casino, for an evening featuring the band’s fun songs in a lively setting. The venue often fills quickly, so early arrival is recommended for seating.

This breakfast supports programs at Veterans Rally Point. It takes place on the last Saturday of each month. The cost is $10 per person, and children younger than 5 eat at no charge.

Participants can ride a hunter pace of approximately six to seven miles across varied terrain on wooded trails and open fields, or take a three mile valley route with gentle hills through fields and trails. Both courses include numerous jumps, with options to bypass them. Divisions available are Walk/Trot, Hill Topper, and Open Jumper. Additional details will be announced.

The Tarzan Paddle Race presents the Tribridge Challenge on the Mystic River, offering two distances to suit different goals. Recreational paddlers can choose a three mile short course, while more competitive racers can take on five miles. The event welcomes SUPs, prone craft, surfskis, and canoe and kayak classes including C1, C2, K1, and K2. Check in and a safety briefing come first, followed by staggered starts for the long and short courses. Registration is $49 and must be completed in advance, with no same day sign ups. Early registrants receive a race T-shirt. All experience levels are encouraged to participate. After the finish, a barbecue with a DJ keeps the celebration going. Awards include a $50 cash prize for first place, with gift cards and merchandise from local businesses for second and third. This is the final race of the season and the location is convenient to the Long Island Ferry and under two hours from Boston.
