Drawing Techniques - August - Newark, DE 2026

Drawing Techniques is a Tuesday art class series focused on learning drawing from the basics through more advanced techniques. Students work with a sketchbook throughout the session and receive individual coaching, with all levels welcome. The student will need a 9x12 multi-media sketchbook, soft pencils, and a white eraser, plus any optional drawing medium they want to use.

Relief Printmaking - Linocut

Learn the basics of relief printmaking through linocut in this hands-on class at Newark Arts Alliance. Students will create a limited edition of their own hand-carved and printed images, while exploring how carving marks create graphic textures and effects. Participants will use tools and materials provided by the instructors and will be responsible for some supplies, including carving tools, linoleum, roller, ink, and paper, with an estimated cost of about $30.

Poolside Playtime at FFC Pool is open to families. Non member pricing is $10 per adult and $5 per child ages 0 to 8. EHS Cheerleading Mini Camp

At the EHS Cheerleading Mini Camp, participants learn two to three cheers and a dance, then have the chance to perform with the Elkton High School squad at the first varsity home game. August Homeschool Classes at Iron Hill Museum & Science Center

Plants and fungi take center stage in this homeschool class at Iron Hill Museum & Science Center, exploring how two distinct kingdoms can share habitats, reveal similarities, and benefit people worldwide. The session looks beyond familiar examples like mushrooms on pizza or lettuce and shade trees, offering a broader view of the diversity and roles of both groups. Part of the museum’s monthly Homeschool Days, these science classes are designed for individual families and complement homeschool curricula for an interactive, convenient experience. Delaware Card Show: August 8-9, 2026

The Delaware Card Show returns to the Bob Carpenter Center at the University of Delaware for a large-scale, two-day hobby event. More than 25,000 square feet spanning two entire NCAA basketball courts, the tunnels, lobby areas, and the concession level will be filled with vendor tables. Attendees can browse modern and vintage sports cards, trading card games such as Pokémon, One Piece, and Magic, along with autographs, memorabilia, sports-themed art, and other collectibles. Buying, selling, and trading continue throughout the weekend, creating plenty of opportunities to meet fellow collectors and make deals. General admission and early entry options are available. University of Delaware students with a valid student ID receive free admission. On-site parking is complimentary all weekend, and children 10 and under are admitted at no cost. Monthly Sunset Yoga Series

A relaxing Gentle Flow Yoga class on the pool deck at FFC Pool welcomes teens and adults of any experience level. Three sessions are offered over the summer, and participants can attend one or all. Registration is open. Cost is $15 for members and $20 for nonmembers, which includes early pool access for the day. Early releases No Glass Shoes and Puppet Show built early momentum, and Texas Honey climbed to number two on the Billboard Blues Chart, expanding her profile around the world. Recognition includes a spot on Guitar World’s Young Guns list and the Independent Blues Music Awards Road Warrior Award, and she has toured across the United States and Europe while sharing stages with Buddy Guy and Joe Bonamassa. Opening the show, the Alicia Maxwell Project is a four piece from the Delmarva region that formed in 2019. The band has maintained a steady presence at clubs and festivals and has supported acts such as Danielle Nicole Band, Bywater Call, Vanessa Collier, Popa Chubby, and John Nemeth. Together they deliver modern blues powered by raw emotion, technical spark, and a fearless spirit.

A floating sound bath and guided meditation at the FFC Pool offers a calm, restorative experience in a tranquil pool setting. Settle in with a 20-minute guided meditation, then relax into a soothing soundscape created by crystal singing bowls, chimes, and other therapeutic instruments that encourage deep relaxation and mindful presence. Participants can choose to drift on a pool float or unwind poolside on a yoga mat, blanket, or towel, selecting whatever feels most comfortable. No prior meditation experience is required. Comfortable clothing or swimwear is appropriate, and bringing water is recommended. Delaware Fun-A-Day 2026

Delaware Fun-A-Day brings the statewide community together for a large-scale showcase of daily art-making. Participants select a personal theme, create one piece each day for a month, and the full body of work comes together as a collective exhibition that traces each artist’s journey. The three-day event at the Courtyard by Marriott Newark-University of Delaware opens with a celebratory evening featuring food, drinks, music, and a sweeping display of more than 6,200 works from over 300 artists and creators. The exhibition continues throughout the run, including a special Maker Night designed for social, make-together creativity where attendees can bring a project, find a seat, and create alongside others. New this year, a discounted room block is available for participants, and the organization has formalized as a nonprofit while it continues progress toward 501(c)(3) status.

Bring your pet’s latest vaccination records, even if they are expired. Payment is taken at the time of service by credit or debit card or cash, and a photo ID with your current address, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or military ID, helps speed paperwork. Care is provided in order of arrival and starts on time. Services are for cats and dogs only. Puppies and kittens can receive a distemper shot starting at six weeks of age, while rabies vaccines are given to pets sixteen weeks and older. To receive a three-year rabies vaccine, bring the most recent rabies certificate signed by a veterinarian showing prior vaccination. For everyone’s safety, cats must arrive in a secure hard plastic or cardboard carrier. Dogs should wear a collar and be on a sturdy, non-retractable leash kept short. Liver Run 5K is a run and walk focused on raising awareness for liver disease and organ donation. The event narrative shares Jon’s experience with PSC, first diagnosed at age 9, and the way sports became a source of strength as he grew up. He discovered a passion for running in high school and continued with college cross country at Goldey-Beacom College. As he looked ahead to the 2020 season, his condition progressed and his MELD score reached the level where a transplant was needed. That year, his older brother David volunteered as a living donor, the transplant took place, and both brothers recovered fully. Jon returned to running thanks to that selfless gift. The run helps spread the message of organ donation and offers hope to those waiting for a transplant. Proceeds support the Chris Klug Foundation, a nonprofit that educates about the importance of organ, eye, and tissue donation.

A community 5K honors the life of Benjamin Cole Campbell and supports the Benjamin Campbell Memorial Fund, created to carry forward his commitment to helping students succeed. Ben’s path was marked by perseverance. After losing his mother to leukemia, he attended Milton Hershey School, found purpose on the football field, and later moved home to enroll at Newark High School, where he quickly became a team leader and met his future fiancé, Shannon. He continued his education while playing football at Wesley College and graduated with honors, then earned his law degree with honors from Widener Law School. He passed the bar and began his legal career at Baird, Mandalas, Brockstedt, and Federico LLC, exemplifying hard work and grit. His life was tragically cut short in an accident, and his family and friends established the fund to continue the service to others he valued so deeply. The 5K starts and finishes at Newark High School and follows a route through the City of Newark. Walkers and runners of every pace are welcome. After the race, participants can gather at Deer Park Tavern for a celebration that includes raffles and additional ways to contribute to the fund. Led by singer Robert Williams, known as Big Sandy, the group began in Southern California in 1988 and has continued to refine its voice ever since. A community celebration honors local kids and teens who are bravely facing childhood cancer, surrounded by superhero fun for all ages and plenty of meaningful ways to help. The day includes a heartfelt salute to these young heroes, along with perspectives from families, medical professionals, and nonprofit workers on how childhood cancer affects the community. Attendees can take action by donating blood at the Blood Bank of Delmarva blood drive. A kickoff giveaway will enter the first 20 people registered for the blood drive to win a $50 DelPez gift card. Additional ways to contribute include donating hair at a station run by Trilogy Salon, crafting cards or hero bracelets for children in treatment, visiting nonprofit booths to learn about local support efforts, and registering with NMDP, the international bone marrow registry. Superhero-themed activities add to the experience with an obstacle course and jousting ring, meet-and-greets with Captain America and Spiderman, superhero training, an inflatable designed for younger children, face painting, a villain-hunting scavenger quest with a prize, interactions with first responder heroes, a photo booth with superhero filters, and super performances.
