His albums A Soul to Claim, produced by Jim Gaines, and Between Somewhere and Goodbye, produced by Andreas Werner, were named Albums of the Year by DownBeat Magazine in 2022 and 2025. Over more than 40 years and across 29 albums, he has worked with George “Harmonica” Smith, Big Joe Turner, Big Mama Thornton, Lowell Fulson, and Pee Wee Crayton. His songs have been recorded by Albert King, Albert Collins, Joe Louis Walker, and Eva Cassidy, and have appeared in film, television, and theater. Michael Boswell opens the show. Youth in kindergarten through eighth grade can compete in a state cross country qualifier at Vineyards Community Park organized by Gulf Coast Runners. The meet is open to school teams, running clubs, and unattached runners seeking a path to the Florida Youth Running Association State Cross Country Championship. Racing divisions include Middle School for grades 6 to 8, Upper Elementary for grades 3 to 5, and Lower Elementary for kindergarten to grade 2. Distances are 3K for Middle School, 2K for Upper Elementary, and a 1K fun run for Lower Elementary that is not officially timed, although a clock will be visible. Sessions explore the role of the human animal bond in play therapy, the skills clinicians need before inviting animals into sessions, training approaches, animal welfare needs, safety, risk awareness, essential equipment, and ways to apply this work in individual and group therapy. The day includes practice with dogs along with facilitated discussion and processing. Day 2 takes place at P and H Ranch, with location details shared after registration. ACMA and Island Hopper spotlight local songwriting at The Sidney & Berne Davis Art Center with an in-the-round performance featuring Roy Schneider, Anthony Wayne, Bill Metts, Tim McGeary, and Matt Hannam. Each artist will share original songs along with the stories behind them. All performers are members of the Americana Community Music Association, a Fort Myers nonprofit dedicated to supporting original music throughout the year. Roy Schneider, a founding member of the duo Reckless Saints, has toured across the United States and abroad for two decades. His work has earned multiple NewFolk finalist honors at the Kerrville Folk Festival in Texas, an appearance on Season 5 of NBC’s The Voice, and recognition at the Telluride Acoustic Blues competition in Colorado. He has received praise from No Depression, drawing comparisons to artists like Steve Earle, Lucinda Williams, Guy Clark, and Lyle Lovett while highlighting his singular voice and craft. In April he and partner Kim Mayfield released the album Blue Twangled Folk’n’ Roll. Anthony Wayne is a Southwest Florida singer songwriter with roots in Indiana whose Americana and roots rock songs pair memorable melodies with honest storytelling. After nearly two decades performing along the Gulf Coast, he continues to grow a catalog of original music and is releasing new recordings and videos while appearing at festivals, waterfront stages, and intimate songwriter rounds throughout the region. Bill Metts began playing during the country blues revival of the 1960s and developed a love for fingerstyle guitar. His performances include the Mississippi John Hurt Blues Festival, the famed Ground Zero in Clarksdale, the Will McLean Festival in Brooksville, and multiple appearances at the Island Hopper Songwriter Festival. He led the ACMA’s weekly Songwriter Circle in Fort Myers for four years and favors original material, with occasional carefully chosen covers. Tim McGeary from Naples signed with A&M Records in the 1980s and toured alongside artists such as Billy Idol, Duran Duran, and Simple Minds. His songs have been featured on television in Smallville and One Tree Hill and in films including The Kiss Me Curse and Girl Got Mo. He now writes for other artists and produces music with collaborators around the world, driven by a belief in music’s power to connect people. Matt Hannam, based in Fort Myers, is a singer songwriter who has performed solo, as half of the duo Another Era, and with the five piece band The Collective. He is also an American Livebearer Association Century Breeder with nearly 150 livebearer species bred. He credits consistent results to large, frequent water changes, keeping live plants in every tank, and feeding a variety of live foods daily to both breeding stock and growing fry. Celebrate the holiday with the 12th annual Thanksgiving Day 5k run and walk at Hertz Arena in Estero. Open to Southwest Florida locals and visitors, this central gathering spot sets the stage for a spirited mix of fitness and festivity. Participants take on an officially chip-timed 5k, then enjoy a lively finish area with music, beverages, and snacks. Each entry includes a breathable performance shirt and a medal at the finish. Friends and family can follow along with complimentary live runner tracking through the Elite Events Tracker app, creating a supportive, family-friendly experience.

Now in its 13th year, this Thanksgiving 5K features a scenic route that begins on 5th Avenue and winds through downtown Naples. Pre-race packet pickup is encouraged at Naples on the Run, while pickup on race day is available but discouraged, and participants using it should plan to arrive early. There is no registration available on race day. Pre-registered 5K entrants receive a shirt, and all 5K finishers earn a medal. A one-mile walk follows shortly after the 5K start. Children can take part in a free 100-yard dash for ages 6 and under and a free 1K fun run for ages 14 and under. The course remains open for 90 minutes, and a full awards ceremony is planned. Strollers and other wheeled devices are welcome, with a request to begin toward the back at the start line. Parking is free.
