Navigating Naval Live Oaks Kayak Tour
FPAN and the National Park Service host a guided kayak tour exploring the ecology and history of the Naval Live Oaks area of Gulf Islands National Seashore. The paddle covers about two miles along Santa Rosa Sound at a relaxed pace and lasts roughly an hour and a half. A safety briefing and introduction take place before heading onto the water. Kayaks and personal flotation devices are provided by the National Park Service for up to ten registered participants. Paddlers may bring their own kayak or paddleboard, but overall capacity remains limited. Bring sun protection, drinking water, and any snacks you would like. An on-site liability waiver is required to take part. This free program is open to the public with RSVPs required and a total capacity of 15 participants. It is recommended for ages 13 and older, and anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Create an ocean-inspired resin art piece on a 23 inch by 7.5 inch bamboo surfboard in this hands-on class. Participants receive a board plus three small wooden turtles, sand, seashells, mica powder, and resin. The process starts by mixing resin so it can begin to set, followed by painting the turtles. Then build a sandy shoreline, tint the resin with teal mica powders to form the water, pour it onto the board, and finish by shaping wave effects with alcohol ink and air blowers. Originally called Conn-Fusion, the band took on its current name after extensive performing in Massachusetts with players from both states. The setlist spans Motown, R&B, and funk, along with songs from the 1960s through today, performed by a full lineup that includes female lead vocalists, horns, and a solid rhythm section. The group has been active for more than four decades.
