    Jim Lauderdale

Winter Haven · Gram Parsons Derry Down, 297 5th St NW

Jim Lauderdale leads a celebration of Gram Parsons, marking Parsons’ 80th birthday and his induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Parsons’ work profoundly shaped Lauderdale’s path in country and Americana, beginning with a first listen to Grievous Angel that he has likened to discovering the Beatles. That influence later informed Lauderdale’s 1991 song The King of Broken Hearts, inspired by reading about Parsons moved to tears by George Jones records and using the very phrase that became the song’s title. Lauderdale has long honored Parsons on stage, appearing at tributes at venues such as the Palomino, sharing rehearsal stories that include meeting Keith Richards, and often performing favorites like Hickory Wind. He brings a notable body of work to this tribute, with two Grammy Awards, dozens of albums on his Sky Crunch Records imprint, and the studio release Game Changer recorded at Nashville’s Blackbird Studios with co producer Jay Weaver. His collaborations span artists including Ralph Stanley, Robert Hunter, Loretta Lynn, George Jones, Emmylou Harris, Elvis Costello, Lucinda Williams, and John Oates.
