Upon arrival, keep all firearms secured in vehicles and wait until after the safety briefing and explicit instruction before bringing anything to the firing line. Only lawful firearms are permitted. Because the range is centerfire friendly, rifle cartridges are limited to 8 mm, and pistols or pistol caliber carbines are limited to .45 caliber. A range fee of $10 applies per person for the event, with no fee for children, military, or those with physical disabilities. Subject to state and local laws, instructors at the event may have discounted .22 ammunition available. Plan for a working lunch and bring food, or use quick nearby options such as Friendly Gus, McDonald’s, and Subway. There is no camping at the range; nearby choices include Dames Ferry Park and Lake Tobesofkee in Claystone State Park, and area hotels are available, including Country Inn & Suites and others near I-75 Exit 169. Launched in 1985 in Albany as the Albany Autumn Classic, the event began as an all-breed community show at the Potter Community Center in South Dougherty County and steadily grew. Its charitable reach has supported organizations such as Shriners, the Albany area Hospice, the American Red Cross of SW Georgia, Mission Change, Lilly Pad LLC., The Anchorage, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Jlo’s Animal Rescue and Sanctuary and Sandra’s Rescue Pups of SWGA, and Homes for Our Troops. After a highly successful year in 2010 that outgrew the original grounds, the show moved in 2011 to the Georgia National Fairgrounds in Perry and continues to uphold its mission. Night to Shine is a complimentary celebration for people with special needs, hosted by local churches around the world and open to individuals ages 14 and older. Typical elements include a red carpet welcome with a cheering crowd and photographers, hair and makeup and shoeshine stations, limousine rides, karaoke, gifts, a catered dinner, a quiet sensory space, a respite room for parents and caregivers, dancing, and a crowning ceremony where every guest is honored as a king or queen.
