Participants can earn 3 to 6 continuing education hours approved by NCBTMB and DONA. Training is split into two segments. The first segment awards 3 CE hours and concentrates on anatomy, physiological changes, contraindications, and acupressure points to use and to avoid. It also covers comfort strategies with tools such as birth balls and chairs, and teaches a fully clothed, full body side-lying sequence on a massage table. The second segment provides 3 CE hours and teaches a complete side-lying routine with oil on bare skin using massage tables. Those who have already studied the anatomy and safety content in the first segment may take only the second segment. The side-lying approach is also useful for people who cannot lie face down for extended periods, including elderly, nursing, or post-operative clients. Students will pair up to both give and receive. Instruction is led by Carrie Curtis of Hamoea Healing Arts LLC, a practitioner of pregnancy massage for more than 28 years. She is a licensed massage therapist, an NCBTMB Approved continuing education provider, and a birth doula with experience in home and hospital settings. She teaches Hawaiian massage internationally, with classes accredited in Canada, Australia, and the UK, and is an affiliate member of Massage New Zealand. Enrollment is limited to 8 students. Tuition is $150 for 3 CE hours or $275 for 6 CE hours. Pregnant couples may attend for $200 for the 3 hour segment or $350 for the full day.
