Author Grant Faulkner appears in conversation with Yasmina Din Madden to discuss his new book, something out there in the distance. Created with photographer Gail Butensky, the book pairs flash fiction with photography to follow two lovers on a searching road trip across the American West. Dawn, a photographer drawn to desert landscapes, and Jonny, a driver roaming in search of home while either fleeing or chasing the end of time, navigate a landscape of love, loss, and wonder in concise scenes. A single book purchase provides admission for two people. Yasmina Din Madden is the author of the story collection You Know Nothing from Northwestern University Press, with work in Electric Literature, The Idaho Review, The Fairy Tale Review, and other journals. She is the winner of the Oxford Flash Prize, was a finalist for The Iowa Review Award, and teaches creative writing and literature at Drake University.

The 2026 Friday Night Concert Series concludes on the Ped Mall Stage with a free evening of live music from Strangers of Necessity, Jim Swim, and Ion. Iowa Region SCCA presents the ninth autocross points event of 2026 at Iowa City Airport, offering a timed course where both first-timers and seasoned drivers can test their skills and their cars against the clock. Pre-registration is required. The schedule includes vehicle tech inspection, registration check-in, a mandatory drivers meeting, a novice course walk, and timed runs once the course opens. Permanent car numbers are in use for the season, and if a chosen number is already assigned, resolution will be handled by email. Sound regulations will be enforced with a maximum of 100 dB measured 50 feet from the vehicle.

Diversions Tabletop Game Lounge hosts Blood on the Clocktower, a social deduction and bluffing experience pitting Good against Evil under the direction of a Storyteller. Days bring open talk and whispered side conversations that can culminate in a vote to execute a suspected villain, while nights see the Storyteller wake players one by one to gather information, create mischief, or carry out a kill. A traditional board is not needed. Everyone remains part of the action even after their character dies, continuing as a ghost, and players who arrive late can be added as Traveller characters with unusual talents and uncertain loyalties. Each character has a distinct ability and no two players share the same role. Regular sessions take place on Sundays with some Thursdays mixed in, and the monthly lineup includes Learn to Play, Starter, Level Up, Advanced, and occasional Special Feature options. Learn to Play is tailored for those new to the game and includes a rules overview, strategy conversation, and guidance to help first-timers get comfortable. Level Up introduces added complexity such as new roles or tweaks to the foundational script. Advanced uses any script the Storytellers Guild approves and expects participants to bring a strong grasp of the game for a stiffer challenge. Special Features are rarer and may involve testing custom scripts or unveiling new elements. Tickets are required.
