    TFX Throwdown

    CrossFit Millstone, 7531 US-67, Bettendorf
    See details

CrossFit Millstone hosts a TFX Throwdown in partnership with The Fittest Experience. Teams consist of three athletes of the same gender, with divisions for RX, Intermediate, Masters, Rookie, and Community. A kids component offers individual divisions for under 8, 8 to 10, and 11 to 12, and the kids competition does not serve as a qualifier for the Kids TFX Championship. Every team completes three events. Early bird entry is 225 dollars per team, with a price increase afterward, and all sales are final. Results from 27 host throwdowns feed a single global leaderboard. Based on those standings, the top 15 teams from RX, Intermediate, and Rookie and the top 10 teams from Masters and Community receive automatic invitations to The Fittest Experience, bypassing the online qualifier, and the leaderboard remains hidden until all throwdowns conclude. This is not the only path to compete at The Fittest Experience, since teams and individuals may also enter the separate online qualifier if they prefer or if they do not earn an invite. Division guidelines help athletes choose the right fit. Community athletes typically work with a clean and jerk around 95 and 65 pounds and a snatch around 75 and 55 pounds, with movements such as jumping pull ups, hanging knee raises, scaled wall walks, and single unders. Rookie athletes should be ready for a clean and jerk around 135 and 95 pounds and a snatch around 95 and 65 pounds, plus pull ups, toes to bar, wall walks, and double unders. Intermediate athletes see clean and jerks near 185 and 125 pounds and snatches near 135 and 95 pounds, together with chest to bar pull ups, toes to bar, handstand push ups, and double unders. RX athletes prepare for clean and jerks near 225 and 155 pounds and snatches near 185 and 125 pounds, as well as muscle ups, toes to bar, pistols, handstand walks, strict handstand push ups, and double unders. Masters teams are defined by a combined team age of at least 120 years with all athletes 35 or older and follow standards close to Intermediate, including snatches around 135 and 95 pounds, clean and jerks around 185 and 125 pounds, and skills such as chest to bar pull ups, rope climbs, toes to bar, handstand push ups, and double unders.

Many people paint for one to two hours, though staying longer is fine. Bring your preferred art materials. Basic supplies will be on hand for communal use, which can help if you are trying plein air for the first time. Plan for outdoor comfort by packing sunscreen, a chair or blanket, an easel if you use one, water, and anything else you rely on while painting outside. Curiosity and unhurried observation are encouraged, as the natural setting offers plenty of inspiration. This project is supported by the Quad City Arts re-granting program Arts Dollars, with support from the Illinois Arts Council Agency, the Hubbell-Waterman Foundation, and the Quad Cities Community Foundation Isabel Bloom Art Education Endowment.

Dogs In A Pile brings its jam band sound to Common Chord for a night of adventurous grooves and free-flowing improvisation. Tickets are $28 in advance and $32 at the door. Hailing from Asbury Park, New Jersey, this five-piece has been logging about 130 performances a year since 2022, letting the road fuel a swiftly expanding catalog of original music. Their latest release, Distroid, gathers ten tracks that put long-requested live staples into focused studio form, moving from tight, melody-forward funk and jazz-tinged psych rock to extended journeys marked by crisp unison passages, quick stylistic pivots and vibrant soloing. The lineup features guitarists Jimmy Law and Brian Murray, keyboardist Jeremy Kaplan, bassist Sam Lucid and drummer Joe Babick. A nod to a Grateful Dead lyric, their name hints at a wide-ranging sound that touches storyteller Americana, bluegrass, exploratory jazz, pop-rock finesse and deep-pocket rhythms that flow through funk, Latin and reggae. Their community of fans across the country, known as the Dog Pound, is part of the fabric that surrounds the band’s live presence.
