A weekly, 90 minute studio space for ages 11 to 18 that helps teens unwind, practice simple stress relief tools, and build confidence through approachable, process-based art. Kids' Clay Play - Learn how to use this fun medium to create functional and decorative pieces!

Catalyst Arts Collaborative, 6427 W Ustick Rd, Boise
    See details

Kids ages 5 to 12 can be dropped off for hands-on clay time in a welcoming studio setting. Sessions are open to beginners through advanced young artists and are priced at $40. Guided by ceramic artists and teachers Mindy Curran and Ben Alexander, participants explore the basics of handbuilding, try the pottery wheel, and learn glazing, with the focus rotating so multiple visits provide a fuller experience. Children typically leave with one or two functional or decorative pieces they created themselves. The reservation includes reclaimed clay, instruction, use of tools, wheels, and glazes, plus kiln firing. Wear clothing that can get messy or bring an apron, and note that long nails are not recommended for working with clay. Pre-registration is required, and arriving without registering may result in not being able to participate. Trimming and glazing cannot be completed on freshly made work, so an additional session is needed to finish those steps. At times this class overlaps with a figure painting session in the same space, and models wear kid-appropriate attire. Attendees are asked to be considerate of other classes.

Teen Art Self-Discovery - Teen vibe check: decompress, build confidence, & express through art!

Catalyst Arts Collaborative, 6427 W Ustick Rd, Boise · verified Oct 11
    See details

Ages 11 to 18 are invited into a relaxed studio setting that prioritizes decompression, confidence building, and creative expression without judgment. It acknowledges the pressure of modern teen life, from constant digital input to school and social stress, and offers a calm place to clear the mental clutter of the week through process-focused art. Sessions use the Somaticat approach, which blends steady rhythms, simple movement, and bold, tactile materials to help shift stress from the mind to the canvas. Participants start with a quick, practical reset for the nervous system, using tools like breath, rhythm, or color to ease spikes or low moments. The creative work that follows is all about flow rather than perfection, with options such as large-scale abstract painting, oil pastel release, or freeform neuro-doodling. A gentle wind down closes the experience in a low-sensory environment, including a simple technique to refine what was made into something to keep or share, entirely by choice. This is not a class where artwork is graded. It is a welcoming, low-pressure studio time designed to help teens regulate, express, and leave feeling more centered. Registration is $30, and pre-registration is required.

    Tylor and the Train Robbers

The Riverside Hotel, 2900 W Chinden Blvd, Garden City · verified Oct 9
    See details

Tylor & The Train Robbers bring a decade of relentless touring to the stage with roots country and Americana that fuses Western tradition with a fresh perspective. Josh Crutchmer has praised their uncommon balance of heritage and future, and he notes Tylor Ketchum’s Western-tinged baritone, a rock-leaning approach, and a poetic edge. The band’s core is a family affair, with Tylor fronting on vocals, rhythm guitar, and songwriting while Jason Bushman lays down bass and harmonies and Tommy Bushman powers the drums and adds vocals. Lead guitarist Rider Antonio Vazquez deepens the sound with emotive, textured playing. The group is preparing to release Hum of the Road, shaped during a Southern tour and recorded at Yellow Dog Studios in Wimberley, Texas with producer Cody Braun of Reckless Kelly and engineer Adam Odor, then mixed in Austin by Jonathan Tyler. Across ten songs, the album ranges from driving rock to country swing, ventures into psychedelic colors, leans into tender folk ballads, and settles into classic country, channeling the spirit of the open road while staying firmly in the present. At The Sapphire Room, a complete dinner menu and full bar are available. The venue welcomes guests of all ages and is suitable for families. A ticket is required for each person, and infants held in arms are not permitted.

    Chris Smither

The Riverside Hotel, 2900 W Chinden Blvd, Garden City
    See details

Chris Smither, praised by the Associated Press, brings a lifetime in song shaped by New Orleans roots and a deep love of the blues. Born in Miami during World War II and raised in New Orleans, he learned his first chords on his mother’s ukulele with help from his Uncle Howard, then chased the sound of Lightnin’ Hopkins and Mississippi John Hurt. In his twenties he left anthropology studies for Boston at the urging of Eric von Schmidt, forging friendships with fellow artists including Bonnie Raitt, who later recorded “Love You Like a Man” and “I Feel the Same.” His performances are defined by propulsive fingerpicking layered over the backbeat of his tapping feet, with the footwork mic'd when he performs. Across decades of songwriting and touring, Smither’s catalog spans early 1970s releases, a celebrated return to recording and the road, live albums captured without overdubs, collaborations with producers like Stephen Bruton and David Goodrich, songs placed in films, and bills shared with artists such as B.B. King, Nanci Griffith, Dave Alvin, and Ramblin’ Jack Elliott. Recent highlights include Call Me Lucky in 2018 and More From The Levee in 2020. His 20th release, All About the Bones, features eight new originals alongside his versions of Eliza Gilkyson’s “Calm Before the Storm” and Tom Petty’s “Time to Move On,” with contributions from David Goodrich, Zak Trojano, BettySoo, and jazz saxophonist Chris Cheek, recorded at Sonelab Studios in Massachusetts. This one hour luncheon at The Riverside Hotel offers a complimentary meal and features real experiences shared by local families, illustrating how early support can transform childhood outcomes. The program highlights what a united community can accomplish for its youngest members and outlines ways to get involved through volunteering, donations, or student enrollment. Giraffe Laugh Early Learning Centers, a nonprofit serving Idaho since 1989, strives to ensure a family’s income does not define a child’s future by expanding access to early learning and care for infants through preschoolers, along with tuition assistance, on site food pantries, and resources for parents. Safe, nurturing classrooms and healthy meals not only prepare children for kindergarten, they help create lasting change for families.
