The fan favorite is the Cardboard Kayak Race, a showcase of ingenuity, duct tape, and spirited competition. Indian Creek was not always the heart of downtown. For years it ran out of sight beneath pavement and buildings. After the city uncovered the waterway in 2003, the first Indian Creek Festival began as a small parking-lot gathering and has since grown into a two-day celebration that reaches across multiple blocks of the renewed downtown.
