At Jay Pritzker Pavilion, the Grant Park Music Festival presents Cirque: A Space Odyssey, a program that merges live orchestral music with cirque artistry. Troupe Vertigo takes to the air above the stage, adding a striking visual layer to the Grant Park Orchestra’s performance for a space-themed experience of sound and movement. Open studio sessions welcome makers into a spacious storefront to imagine and build illuminated pieces to wear or carry in the Berwyn Lantern Parade. Arrive with a concept or spark ideas on site with sample lanterns, materials, and information about upcoming workshops. Collaborative efforts on larger wearable art and puppets will be underway, and participants can assist with design and construction. Works in progress may remain in the space to dry and be completed later. Those who prefer not to make a lantern are welcome to focus on their own project and enjoy creative camaraderie. Sessions are open to all ages, with participants 14 and under accompanied by a parent. Bring a non-alcoholic beverage. Donations are appreciated to support supplies and to pay teaching artists for workshops. The Berwyn Lantern Parade MakerSpace is a temporary community studio created in partnership with Berwyn Development Corporation, the City of Berwyn, Concordia Realty, and North Berwyn Park District, hosting artist-led workshops and open studio time for lantern making and shared feedback.
