Veterans Path to Hope of Lake County, formerly LCVFS, hosts a ruck march to raise awareness of the estimated 22 veterans who die by suicide each day. A 22-kilometer live course at Nippersink Forest Preserve in Round Lake, Illinois welcomes anyone who wants to finish the distance in a single day, and there is also a flexible option to complete the same 22 kilometers at a personal pace and location, including spreading the effort over multiple days. Participants may walk, run, swim, or bike anywhere in the world, register online, and attest that they completed their distance. All funds support Lake County Veteran and Family Services, now The Landing Zone of Veterans Path to Hope, which provides assistance aimed at the underlying causes of veteran suicide. Rucking means marching or hiking with a pack, and carrying 22 pounds is an optional tribute. The group meets at Picnic Shelter C at the preserve, and there are more than 70 parking spaces available.

Now in its 22nd year, the Thin Mint Sprint features a 5K run and a 1-mile walk at Lions Park. Participants can choose their pace and enjoy a lively experience. The gathering wraps up with a 1.8 mile noncompetitive walk through the park that shines a light on mental health and helps reduce stigma. Fundraising efforts are recognized, including an official NAMIWalks T shirt for individuals who raise at least $100, along with prizes for the top fundraising teams and the largest teams. Throughout the day, the focus is on celebrating progress and supporting a community where care is accessible, inclusive, and prioritized without stigma.

The GO Gurnee Walking Club will walk a 2.3 mile loop at Ray Lake Forest Preserve, circling the lake on a mostly flat crushed-rock path. Pets are welcome, and an outhouse is available by the parking lot. The preserve is near Route 60 and Freemont Center Road, close to the Target in Mundelein. GPS can be useful, and rough directions from Gurnee include taking Route 45 south to Peterson Road, turning right on Peterson to the end, left on Route 60, a quick right on Freemont Center Road, then a quick right on Erhart Road, with the forest preserve about a mile ahead on the left. The entrance is easy to spot thanks to a large Black Angus cow.
